Be it known that I, GEORGE HENRY ROGERS, a citizen ot' the United States, and a resident of Birmingham,Jefferson county, State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Copy-Holdersand Book-Supports; and I do declare the following to be a clear, full, and exactdescription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, attention being called to the accompanying drawings, with the reference-numerals marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to a device for supporting in a convenient manner and position matter to be copied from.

The device is particularly adapted to support matter when in shape of books and is intended to form an auxiliary attachment to be used in connection with a writing-desk-such, for instance, as described in my Patent No. 591,882, of October 19, 1897. 1

The features of this invention consist of the constrnotionhereinafterdescribed,and shown in the drawings, and whereby the support is also adapted to furnish storage-room for writing material. I

In the following specification, and particularly pointed out in the claim, is found afull description of tl1einvention,its manner of use, parts, and construction, which latter is also illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l shows in elevation the device in position ready for use. Fig. 2 is a view of one of the ends of the upper part of it, and Fig.V 3 is a central longitudinal section of the parts shown in the preceding figure.

The matter to be copied, whether in form of a sheet or book, rests upon one of two inclined shelves 5, supported on a rectangular base G, from opposite sides of which they rise and leaning against each other by their upper edges, as shown. Projecting ledges 7 are is ittedinto a bearing 12,which in turn is titted into the lower edge of a vertical partition 13, which divides the whole superstructure transversely in two parts. The lower part of bearing 12 is extended laterally to form a flange 14, by which it is secured to base 6. These parts or triangular spaces to each side of partition 13 are again horizontally subdivided -by shelves 15, the spaces between which on one side are occupied by drawers 16, all of whichthat is,shelves and drawersmay be used for storing stationery, papers, and writing material.

Suitable paper-clamps lnay be used, if required, to hold the upper leaves of the book down flat. They may be of a kind as described in my patent previously referred to.

Having described my invention, I claim as new- In a copy-holder and book-support, the combination of two inclined shelves, a base 6 from which they rise, a partition 13 dividing the space between these parts, a bearing 12 fitted from below into the lower edge of the partition, a flange 14 on it by which the bearing is secured to base 6 and a supporting-pillar fitted with its upperend into this bearing.
