UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LAZARUS ARKIN, OF BROOKLYN, NEV YORK.
DESIGN FOR A PAPER-HOLDER OR SIMILAR ARTICLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,320, dated November 24, 1896.
Application filed January 2, 1896. Serial No. 574,161. Term of patent 7 years.
0 all whom it may concern:
lie it known that I, LAZARUS ARKIN, of the city of Brooklyn, Kings county, State of New York, have invented and produceda new and original Design for ausefnl Combination of Card, Bill-Head, or Paper Holder, File, and PaperJVeight, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 represents an elevation, Fig. 2 a plan, and Fig. 33 a section, of a card-rack, file, and paper-weight, all in one, these YlGWS being deemed necessary to fully illustrate my design.
The leading feature of my design consists in a combination of two spirals made of one piece of spring, both ends of which are bent and sharpened into hooks or files.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, A represents a spiral stand, the basis of which is connected by means of a curve E with the spiral B, the geometrical planes wherein the bases of both spirals are situated being inclined to each other at an angle of any arbitrary degree. The Vertices of both spirals are shaped as pins or files.
The coils of the spirals can be used for holding cards, bills, letters, or other papers, the bottom spiral being adapted forholding packages of cards or other appurtenances of a desk, of a certain thickness, whereas the top spiral has its coils wound up more closely, so as to hold tight the thinnest sheet of paper. The pins of the vertices are adapted for filing papers.
The combination as a whole is portable and dispenses with the necessity of having the rack fastened on some surface, inasmuch as a supporter for the top spiral and file is furnished by the bottom spiral. It is, furthermore, sufficientl y heavy to be used as a paper weight.
\Vhat I claim is The design for a paper-holder or similar article, substantially as herein shown and described, combining the features of a stand, or paper-weight, with coiled-wire card-holders, all twisted of one piece of spring-Wire.
LAZARUS ARKIN.
