Be it known that I, GEORG EDUARD SCHMID- MER, merchant and partner of the firm Dr. Schmidmer & Co., of No. 150 Exercierplatzstrasse,Schweinau, Nuremberg, l-3avaria,Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Files for Papers and Documents; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such' as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The present invention relates to an improvement in the known Stolzenberger register or file for papers and documents of all kinds, this known file being characterized by the arrangement in connection with a supporting-back of the two flexible metal bands, through which the papers are passed, which bands are then bent down flat upon the surface of the papers.

My improvement in such files consists in furnishing the said metal bands with tubular projections, into which small rods or pins of a cross-bar may be inserted when certain papers are removed from the file in order to take out any desired document.

My invention has the advantage that the papers are not damaged in quickly handling the file, and the latter is very cheap in price.

In the annexed drawings the invention is shown in Figure 1 in side elevation, and in Fig. 2 in plan View.

Referring to the drawings, a is the baseplate or back of the known Stolzenberger file. Two flexible metal bands I), fixed thereon, hold the papers 0, placed upon the file, by being passed through them and then bent down flat thereon, as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1 and by full lines in Fig. 2.

According to my invention such bands are furnished on their upper ends with tubular projections or enlargements d to receive the reduced ends of rods g of a cross-barf, which is placed on the file if it is desired to remove a letter or document. In this case the bands I) are turned into an upright position, as shown in Fig. 1, the rods 9 put into the tubes (Z and then the papers above the one desired to be removed are removed from the bands (Z to the rods g without receiving any damage, and the cross bar f is taken away. The desired document thus being in sight of the user and having been read by him, the rods g are put back into the tubes at, and the papers before removed are slipped down on the bands I), the latter being finally bent down, as shown by Fig. 2.

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

In a file for papers and documents, the combination with a suitable back, of flexible metal bands adapted to be bent up to a perpendicular from said back, to pass through and receive the papers, and then to be bent down flatwise thereon; tubular extensions at the free ends of said bands, and a bar having perpendicular receiving-pins adapted to be inserted in said extensions when the flexible bands are bent up to their receiving position, whereby such of the papers as overlie the one desired may be temporarily removed and afterward restored.
