W. LEACH.
TEMPORARY BINDER. APPLICATION FILED MAR. 9, 1908.
Patented Apr. 13, 1909.
FIE:
WITNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT onrron WILLIAM LEACH, OF BRANDON, MANITOBA, CANADA.
TEMPORARY BINDER.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
, Be it known that I, I/VILLIAM Brandon, in the county of Brandon, Province of Manitoba, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Temporary Binders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in temporary binders, of the type adaptable for use with manifold sheets, such as are used in baggage records and in which both sides of the sheet are desired to be written on, and the objects of my invention are to provide a cheap and simple form of binder of this type, in which the sheet may be written on both sides without removing it from the binder; and it consists essentially of a rigid bar having binding posts extending on each side of the same, and means for holding the sheets on the binding posts, all as hereinafter more fully set forth and described in the accompanying specifications and drawings.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my binder. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view through the same taken at one of the binding posts. Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional detail of the binding posts.
In the drawings like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
A is a rigid bar adapted to afford a convenient surface which will support the manifold sheets while the same are being written on.
B and C are the binding posts, which eX tend substantially an equal distance on both sides of the bar A, and are rigidly secured thereto. The binding posts on each side are preferably made continuous and rectangular in form as shown. If desired, however, they might be in the form of rings.
Suitable means are provided to enable the manifold sheets to be inserted and withdrawn from the binding posts. In the embodiment illustrated, I accomplish this by forming the rectangular binding posts of two parts, a and Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 9, 1908.
Patented April 13, 1909.

l), which telescope into each other, which are LEACI-I, of 1 normally held in their closed or telescoped position by means of a compression spring 0, which abuts the end (Z on a proiecting rode, integral with the part b, and an annular shoulder f formed on the inside of the part a.
The unused forms to be written on are secured on the uppermost side of the binder, as shown in Fig. 1, and as each manifold sheet is filled up on one side, it is turned over, until it lies flat with the underside of the bar A, when the reverse side of the sheet may be written on. All the unused manifold sheets will thus remain on one side of the binder and the used sheets on the other.
This binder will be found of great use in baggage records, particularly for the making out of the way bills, and the records of the ieces of baggage.
While the invention has been herein de scribed with great particularity of detail, it will be readily understood that in carrying out the invention, changes may be made within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim as my invention is A binder comprising a base, and binding arches thereon, the said arches being formed by two U-shaped members having the ends telescoped together, the end of one of the members being formed with a projection having a head thereon, and a spiral spring extending about the projection, and abutting the head thereof, the opposite end of the spiral spring bearing against the opposite member.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM LEACH.
