COMBINED PAPER-WEIGHT AND BILL-FILE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, BEN LITSGHER, a citiv zen of the United States, residing at Davenport, in the county of Scott and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined PaperJVeights and Bill-Files, of which the following is a specification.

An object of the invention is to provide a simple device for use as a bill file and which is also adaptable for use in holding papers upon a desk or table to prevent them from being blown off.

The invention contemplates, among other features, the provision of acombined paper weight and bill. file in which the base constitutes a weight for holding papers upon a table or desk to prevent them from being blown away, said weight supporting the means for securing the bills or other papers upon suitable pointed rods or other similar holding members.

In the further disclosure of the invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of refence denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which:

Figure l is a perspective view of the device; Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken through the device, showing the manner of arranging a bill thereon; and Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 33 in Fig. 2.

Referring more particularly to the views, I provide a base 10 preferably made of solid metal or other similar material and which is adapted to act as a paper weight for holding papers on a desk or table to prevent the same from being blown away. Projecting upwardly from the base 10 adjacent its edge or periphery are a plurality of similar pointed rod-like bill-holding members 11, and secured to the base and lying between the bill-holding members is a retaining member 12 preferably formed of a single piece of flat spring-like metal bent in a substantially U-shaped form and at its bent portion secured to the base by a screw 13, with said retaining member 12 providing retaining arms let and 15, one for each billholding member 11, with the retaining arms Specification of Letters Patent.

each having its extremity formed with an offset 16 which normally bears against the bill-holding member. The offset is formed by bending the upper portion of each retaining member outwardly toward the billholding member and then backwardly or inwardly so that a bill or paper can be readily placed upon the bill-holding member and pulled downwardly beyond the offset of the retaining arm, said retaining arms for said bill-holding members being adapted to hold the papers or bills against accidental removal from the bill-holding members.

The base is preferably made circular and the bill-holding members arranged in diametrically opposed position thereon, with the retaining member lying between the billholding members and one bill-holding member being preferably longer than the other, with the retaining arms correspondingly formed so that one will be longer than the other and adapted to have their offsets engage the bill-holding members adjacent their pointed or free ends.

From the foregoing description it will be seen that the device described is of a simple construction; and consists of few parts that can be cheaply manufactured.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

As a new article of manufacture, a combined paper weight and. bill holding member comprising a base, uprights on said base and a retaining member formed of a single piece of flat spring-like metal bent adjacent its medial portion to be formed into a U-shape, with the said member lying between said uprights and secured to the base and by its formation providing springlike arms, one in juxtaposition to each upright, said arms having their body portions normally spaced from the uprights and at their upper ends formed to provide angular offsets, with the apices of the portions of said arms forming the angular offsets normally abutting against said uprights.
