CARD-EXHIBITOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Get. 5, 1909.
Application filed March 21, 1907. Serial No. 363,735.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FRED J. KILMER and Fniznniircir A. HENNIG, citizens of the United States, residing at Wimbledon, in the county of Barnes and State of North Dakota, have invented a new and useful Improvement in (lard-llxhibitors, of which the following is a specification.
(Eur invention relates to improvements in bill of fare markers and has for its object a simple and inexpensive device for holding a bill of fare and indicating an order thereon.
This invention comprises a suitable holder for a bill of fare having a set of indicators corresponding with the articles listed, said indicator-s being adapted to be advanced over the names of the articles ordered by the guest. The waiter takes the holder with the bill of fare to the kitchen, where the meal is dished up according to the articles indicated.
This invention greatly facilitates the taking of orders in the dining room and in filling them in the kitchen and tends to do away with all possibilities of mistakes being made by the waiter.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, Figure l is a front view of our invention; Fig. 2 is a View looking down upon the upper end thereof; Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view taken on the line X-X of Fig. 1; Fig. 4: is a detail view of the spring clamp; Fig. 5 is a detail sectional view looking at the back of the flange which supports the markers, and Fig. 6 is a View of one of the markers.
In the drawings A represents a holder made out of a single piece of metal, having its lower edge 2 bent up to form a stop for the lower end of the bill of fare card B. The side edges 3 and l of the holder are bent inward to form grooves 5 and 6, between which the bill of fare card B is adapted to be passed. A spring clamp 7 is soldered or otherwise fastened between the sides of the groove 6 and is formed with a spring portion 8, which projects inward to clamp the bill of fare card against the outer wall 9 of the clamp. On the outer wall 9 of the flange t is a vertical row of markers C, which are coincident with the series of names of the articles or designations 1O presented on the face of the bill of fare. Each marker is formed with a pair of pivots 11, which are adapted to turn in the recesses 12 formed in the flange l of the frame and adjoining the wall 9 of the clamp. The arms 13 of the markers are adapted to swing through slots 14, which are provided in the flange a. Spring tongues 15 on the clamp 7 are arranged immediately below the slots 1%, and the shoulders 16 on the markers im pinge against said spring tongues when the markers are turned and advanced over the items on the bill of fare or are caused to reeede by turning them back over the flange lof the frame. Normally all of the markers are shown in receded position.
In use, the bill of fare card is passed into the grooves 5 and 6 and held in the frame against the stop 2 by means of the spring 8. The markers are then advanced by turning them over the designations on the face of the bill of fare. The device is then handed to the waiter, who carries it into the kitchen and fills the order according to the indications.
The parts are adapted to be constructed of thin metal, although any suitable material may be used.
In accordance with the patent statutes we have described the principle of operation of our invention together with the apparatus which we now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof but we desire to have it understood that the construction shown is only illustrative and that the invention can be carried out by other means and applied to uses other than those set forth within the scope of the following claim.
Having described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
A device of the class set forth, comprising, in combination, a suitable frame, a card associated with said frame having a series of designations upon its face, spring engaging means on said frame for holding said card a series of markers upon said frame turning in planes perpendicular to the face of said card and coincident with said designations and supporting means for the markers permitting the same to be turned f0rward or backward upon said frame in either of said positions; a
In testimony whereof, we have signed our a. L i:, f' names to this specification, in the presence of two subscrlblng witnesses.
