HOUSEHOLD ORDERING DEVICE.
No. 560,505.. 7 Patented May 19, 1896.

FREDERICK 'KEES, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
HOUSEHOLD ORDERING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 560,505, dated May 19, 1896.
Seria1N0-5'75,081. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FREDERICK lines, of the city of Minneapolis, county of Hennepin, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Household Ordering Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device adapted for use in kitchens and in households, the same serving as a reminder of the articles that should be ordered from the grocer or other dealer; and the object I have in view is to provide a device which will be of a cheap construction, which will occupy but little space, and which will be light and convenient to handle and will at the same time present a neat appearance.
The invention consists generally in the combination with a sheet of metal or like material having elongated perforations or openings, and small spring-slides provided in said openings which form frames or guides therefor.
My invention consists, further, in details of construction and in combinations, all as hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
The invention will be more readily understood byreference to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of an ordinary device embodying my invention. Fig; 2 is an enlarged front view of a section of the device. Fig. 3 is a sectional view thereof on the line a; 00 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is an enlarged perspective view of one of the spring-slides.
As shown in the drawings, 2 represents a sheet of metal. This sheet is made of any desired length and is provided with a series of perforations 3, formed by striking up the flanges 4 from the metal sheet. This is preferably so formed that its ends are square and its sides parallel. The enlarged views 2 and 3 fully illustrate the form of the opening and show the flanges 4 at the sides thereof. In each of these openings is a slide 6, which is made of spring brass or steel, preferably formed with a crown which appears above the surface of the sheet, and with the curved edges 7, which project into the opening and embrace the flanges 4 thereof to prevent the slide from falling out. A'slight pressure upon the sides of the slide, however, will spring the edges 7 together and permit their removal from the opening. The opening is preferably about-twice the length of the slide. each opening is the name of an article which may be needed from the grocer or other dealer. Along the right-hand edge of the sheet a column may be marked for notes as to the amounts of the different articles required, and this column I preferably provide with a facing. 8 of celluloid, from which marks made erably provided with a hole at the top so that.
it may be hung upon the wall. As the slides are formed of spring metal, their edges are clamped by theresiliency of the spring upon the flanges of the sheet. By this means the slides are held in position at the desired points upon the sheet and all danger of their be ing accidentally moved, as frequently would happen except for this spring action of the slides, is obviated.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination, with the metal sheet, having elongatedopenin gs therein, said openings being provided with the flanges 4, of the metallic slides 6, for calling attention to the various articles indicated upon the sheet, said slides being formed of spring metal and arranged to clamp upon said flanges, whereby said slides are held in the desired position.
2. The combination, with the sheet, having the elongated openings therein, provided with flanges 4, of the spring-slides 6, comprising the crown part and the curved edges 7, said slides being arranged in said openings and clamping said flanges whereby the slides are held by spring-pressure in the desired position.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 6th day of January, A. D. 1896.
FREDERICK KEES.
