To all whom it may concern: i
Be it known that l, ADDISON IF., DEEM, a citizen of the UnitedvStates, residing at Belpre, in the countyfof `Vashington and State of Ohio, haveinvented a new and useful Display Device, of which the following.vr isa specication.u
This invention relates to display racks and is a division of an application filedrby me on August 1, 1910, said application bearing Serial No. 574,882.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple in construction and which will serve as a holder for advertising or other matter to be displayed and at the same time can be used as a receptacle for articles of different kinds, such as thread, thimbles, ribbons and the like.
Another objectis to provide improved means whereby the frame of the rack can be readily connected to its brace.
lVith the foregoing and otherobjects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it'being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a display rack adapted for use as a ladys work holder. Fig. 2 is a detail view of a portion thereof.
`Referring to the figures by characters of reference A designates a frame consisting of upstanding legs 1-1, formed of strips of sheet metal or the like and a transverse member 2, riveted or otherwise secured to the members 1 and formed of a similar material.
3 designates lugs which are formed by cutting parallel slits in the side members 1 and forcing the material between the slots rearwardly, to produce spaces between the rear sides of the members 1 and the front sides of the lugs 8, which spaces are of a size to admit the edge portions of a card or plate having display oradvertising matter thereon. Y Similar lugs 2O are formed upon a horizontally disposed strip 19 which is riveted or otherwise secured to the sides 1 and located abovepthe lower lends" thereof. This strip is formed withelongated slots`21'fo`r` the purposedof allowingV a ribbon to` be passed through .the slots andsupported on the Iarm 21a formed thereby, t-he ribbon being doubled andhaving its ends hanging down to be iisedor ,the .nulnQSeQf Surrertes .Pine and y.needles and the like, thus acting 'asasubsti' tute for a cushion. A receptacle 22 is formed upon the outer face of the strip 19A and has a partition 211, there being a V-shaped opening 23 in one end wall of the receptacle. This opening is designed to hold any compressible article which may be wedged and firmly secured in position in an obvious manner.
The hooks 25 secured to the bottom ends of the side members 1 are used for the purpose of supporting any article for which they may be used. As-shown in Fig. 2 these hooks have studs 34: passed through apertures in the side members and upset to hold the parts together rigidly. Thimble holders 26 are provided, each being punched outof a piece of sheet metal and having an aperture to receive the thimble, the rear ends of the holders being riveted to the side bars of the frame. The prongs 32 as is clearly obvious from the drawings, are punched out of the material of which the top bar 2 is formed. The prongs have a rounded receiving face to engage and retain pens and pencils and the like, and each of them is provided with a sharp depression or cutting edge c which is for the purpose of cutting thread, the thread being led thereto from the spool holders 28. Each of these spool holders consists of a single piece of metal having outwardly extending arms 29 and 30 which project in opposite directions and a stud 31 which is spirally twisted to allow of the free rotation of a spool placed thereon. The arms 29 and 80 form a base to support the spool and permit rotation thereof. Each side bar 1 adjacent the top thereof is formed with an opening of a shape to provide a pivot or cross piece a and abendable finger o which latter has no connection with the outer end of the pivot or cross piece a.
The wire support 27 has its upper ends coiled to form an eye as at c and provided with a downwardly extending finger cl.
In operation the lingers b are bent to one side of the pivot or cross pieces a to such an extent as to permit the eyes or coils c to be p Patented Apr..` 18, 1911. Qrigmaiappneaaon aieaaugifstijieioysenaiu. 574.832. Divided and uns appncanon inea october 24.
slipped over pivot or cross pieces a, after which the fingers Z) are turned to their original positions, forming stops to prevent the eyes or coils c from leaving the pivot or cross pieces a.
What is claimed is:
l. In a display device, a frame and a brace therefor, the brace having port-ions of its upper ends coiled, cross pieces carried by the frame at the sides thereof and engaging the coils, and bendable fingers integral with the frame and disposed to Contact with the cross pieces to ret-ain the coiled ends thereon.
2. A device of the class described including a frame, a transversely extending pivot device thereon, a brace having an eye mounted on said device, bendable means carried by the frame for engaging the end of the pivot device to retain the eye thereon, and a stop finger extending from the brace and movable against one face of the frame.V
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aixed my signature in thepresence of two Witnesses.
