HOLDER FOR PAPERS OR BAGS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 5, 1907.
Application filed August 2, 1906. Serial No. 322,858.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GERTRUDE SHOLL PRIDDY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Holder for Papers or Bags, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a device f0 clamping and holding a plurality of sheets of paper or bags; and the object of my invention is to produce a device from which the papers or bags may be readily removed one by one without tearing them, and at the same time they are held secure against accidental displacement or removal.
A further obj eet of my invention is to produce a device of such simple construction and such small initial cost that it may be sold with the package of paper or bags and thrown away when the package is exhausted and of suflicient stability that it may, if desired, be kept and used for filing bills, receipts, or other papers.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a front elevation showing the holder in use. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of my holding and clamping device when open and empty.
According to the form of the invention here shown the clamping and holding device is composed of two main clamping members or wings 2 3, one of which goes each side of the pad or package of paper or bags 1 to be held by the device. The package 1 is provided with a perforation 8, near the top thereof, and preferably, although not necessarily, with a cut or slit connecting said perforation with the top of the package. Extending downward from the back of the clamping member 3 is the holding member 4, which is bent forward at a point a short distance below the clamping members 2 3, and its sharp point 5 extends up at an outwardly-inclined angle. Near the junction of the two clamping members and the holding member and extending forwardly therefrom is provided a small hook 6 or other suitable clasp for securing the end of the holding member 4 in the manner shown in Fig. 2. Extending upwardly from the point of junction of the other members above referred to is a small ring or supporting member 7. I11 the form shown all the parts are formed of wire, and, furthermore, of a single piece of wire bent to form first the holding member 4 and then the supporting member 7, the two clamping members 2 and 8, and the hook or clasp 6 in succession, although it is evident that these parts need not necessarily be made of wire and not necessarily of a single piece.
In using my improved device the package of paper or other similar material is placed on the ing members together, thus securely holding the sheets throughout their entire width. The sheets cannot slip out of the clamp even when but a few remain, as they are secured by the holding member 4, and they cannot swing and blow around on the holding member, as they are secured by the clamping member.
ith my device sheets may be used which have a cut extending upward from the perforation 8 to the top of the sheets, so that when one pulls on a sheet it may be removed without tearing the same, while the clamping members prevent the slit from opening so as to allow the sheet to fall or be shaken out. My improved holder may be sold with the sheets above described, and the two constitute a single article of manufacture and sale.
Various changes in the form and details of my invention may be resorted to at will without departing from the spirit of my invention. Hence I consider myself entitled to all forms of the invention as may lie within the scope of my claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A holder for paper, comprising two parallel clamping members and a holding member adapted to pass through the paper and secure the clamping members to said paper,
ITO
all of said members being formed of a single piece of metal.
2. A holder for paper, comprising two'parallel clamping members, and a holding member adapted to pass through the paper and secure the clamping members to said paper, each of said members being formed ofwire.
3. A holder for paper, comprising two parallel clamping members formed of a single piece of Wire, and a holding member adapted to pass through the paper and secure the clamping members to said paper.
4. A holder for paper, comprising tWo parallel clamping members, a holding member adapted to extend through the paper beloW said clamping members and hold said members together, and a handle for supporting said holder, each of said members being formed of Wire.
5. A holder for paper, comprising two par- 20 allel clamping members, both formed of a single piece of Wire, the end of said Wire being bent to inclose said clamping members and hold them in contact With the paper.
In testimony whereof I have signed my .2 5 name to this specificationv in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
GERTRUDE SHOLL PRIDDY.
