DISPLAY-STAND.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J AMES TOWLE, l citizen of the United States, and a resident of Oremont, in the county of Polk and State of Georgia, have invented a new and Improved Display-Stand, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to display stands for postal-cards and similar articles, and more particularly to a display stand having a number of leaves or partitions movably supported upon a suitable standard, and having the surfaces perforated to permit clips for holding the cards or other articles, to be inserted at a number of points and in different positions.

An object of the invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive and artistic display stand for postal-cards and the like, in which the articles to be displayed can be removably mounted in different positions, and can be so held in place that they can be easily removed, and so that there is no danger of injuring them.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the class described in which clips of any suitable form are used for holding the cards in place, and in which the leaves or partitions upon which the cards are mounted present perforations in which the clips can be located, whereby the cards can be arranged in many difi'ere'nt positions, and at different points of the leaves or partitions.

The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts to be more fully described hereinafter and particularly set forth in the claims.

Before proceeding to a more detailed explanation of my invention, it should be clearly understood that while the same is particularly useful for displaying postal cards, for sale or exhibition, it can also be advantageously employed for other articles which are to be exhibited. I provide leaves which have perforations to receive clips to hold the articles in place. These leaves may be fashioned from different materials, for example, from perforated sheet metal, or from wire or other netting, in which the spaces between the wires or threads form the perforations. Again, the leaves may consist of intermeshed strips which form a weave, leaving openings or perforations to receive the clips.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 10 represents a base of any suitable form, having a substantially perpendicular post or'standard 11. Near its lower end, the post has a collar 12 rigidly secured thereto by a set screw 13 or in any other convenient manner. A hub 14 is loosely mounted upon the standard, and is supported by the collar 13, for a purpose which will appear hereinafter. Each of the leaves comprises a frame 15 having longitudinal upright members 16 and transverse members 17 The members 16 and 17 are secured together at adjacent ends by means of corner blocks or brackets 18. The latter have openings formed to receive the ends of the members 16 and 17, which are preferably round or tubular in cross section, with laterally extending flanges 16 and 17 a respectively at the inner sides. The lower, inner blocks 18 are supported by the hub 14 and are secured thereto by rods 19, which extend through the blocks into recesses provided therefor in the hub. The rods 19 are arranged longitudinally of the inner frame members 16, and project from the upper and lower ends of the same. The inner, upper blocks 18 are connected by a hub 20 similar to the hub 14 and like the latter, are provided with openings to receive the projecting ends of the rods 19. The latter, adjacent to the hub 20, have heads 21 which hold the rods in place. A collar 29 upon the standard 11 engages the hub 20 and limits the movement thereof. The outer corner blocks 18 are connected by a lower supporting ring 22 which is secured to the lower corner blocks 18 by means of pins or ard 11.

Sheets or fabrics form the surfaces of the leaves and are secured between the flanges 16 and 17 a by means of rivets 29' or the like. In the form of the device illustrated in Figs. 1, 3 and 4, the sheets are fashioned from flat, elongated strips 29 of metal or the like, interwoven to leave interstices, and having the extremities of the strips secured betweenthe metal. 30 are secured at the flanges of the opposite flanges 1b or 17 In the form of the device shown in Fig. 6, a simple. sheet 30 of metal or the like, having round or other perforations 31 therethrough is employed. In Fig. 7 is shown a portion of a leaf having the surface formed by interwoven wires or similar elongated members 32 arranged diagonally with respect to one another. 7 The ends of the wires and the edges of the sheet frame members of the leaves by means of screws or rivets 33, or in any other suitable manner. The interwoven wires, if so desired, may be arranged otherwise than diagonally.

Any suitable form of clip B can be used with my invention, provided the clip is so constructed that it can be inserted into one of the perforations of the leaves to permit the postal card A or other article, to be attached to the surfaces of the leaves, as is shown most clearly in Fig. 1. In Fig. 4-is shown. a special form of the clip B fashioned from a strip of resilient metal bent upon itself. A portion 34 of the clip adjacent to the fold of the same is so formed that it ran be inserted between the flanges 16 or 17*. A further portion 85 of the clip, that is, the portion comprising the free ends of the sides of the clip, is outwardly offset and has the extremities outwardly disposed. The clip is inserted in one of the perforations of a leaf and grips the card or other article being held between its free ends, at the same time gripping the surface of the leaf and pressing the card against the same to hold it in position.

Fig. 5 shows an embodiment of my invention, which is adapted to be arranged in a corner of a room, a show-case or the like. In this form of the device the base and the supporting rings, as well as the hubs, are not circular, but are cut away to permit the device to be arranged in a corner. The supportingrings 22 and 23 are curved in arcs of a circle, and at the ends have caps, as for exaii'iple, 23 Preferably, the leaves are three in number in this form of the device, the arrangement is such that the whole can be easily arranged in a corner, the cross-sec tional form being that of a quadrant of a circle.

Having thus described my invention,'I

claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a display stand, a leaf comprising a frame, and a surface encompassed by said frame and presenting openings within the same, in combination with clips adapted to be arranged in said openings to hold postalcards in position, said clips being adapted to be held in place by engagement with said frame.

In a display stand, a standard, hubs rotatably mounted upon said standard, a plu rality of leaves pivoted between said hubs, said leaves having perforated surfaces, clips adapted to be removably arrangedin perforations of said surfaces to hold in position articles to be displayed, and means for removably connecting said leaves whereby the same are held fixed relatively to one another.

7 In a display stand, a standard, hubs rotatably mounted upon said standard, collars rigid with said standard and serving to hold said hubs in place longitudinally of said standard, a plurality of leaves each pivoted at the rear edge between said hubs, said leaves having perforated surfaces, and clips adapted to be removably mounted in the perforations of said surfaces.

8. In a display stand, a standard, hubs removably mounted upon said standard, 001- lars rigid with said standard and limiting the movement of said hubs longitudinally of said standard, leaves pivotally mounted between said hubs, and each comprising a frame having longitudinal frame members,

end frame members, and brackets connecting said frame members at the extremities, said leaves having perforated surfaces carried by said members, clips adapted to be removably arranged in the perforations of said leaves, and supporting rings removably" connecting said leaves to hold the same fixed relatively to one another.

9. In a display stand, a leaf comprising longitudinal frame members, transverse frame members, corner brackets having openings adapted to receive the extremities of said frame members, said frame members having spaced flanges at the sides, a surface adapted to be secured between said flanges of said members, and having perforations therethrough, and means for mounting said leaf in position.

10. In a display stand, a movable leaf having a surface comprising interwoven, elongated strips constituting a fabric and leaving perforations through the surface, and a frame encompassing said surface and having spaced flanges receiving the ends of said strips therebetween, in combination with clips adapted to be removably arranged in the perforations, for holding articles to be displayed in place upon said surface, said clips being adapted to be held between said flanges to project from said frame upon said surface. 7
