Application August 19,193Z,SerialNo. 159,831 1 Claim. (01. zit-49y This invention relates to new and useful improvements in display devices and more particularly it pertains to devices for displaying various articles of which paint brushes are one good example.

It is the object of the invention to provide new and novel means for displaying .paint brushes and similar articles, and at the same time keep them orderly and in pre-determined numbers in groups.

It is a further object of the invention so to construct the device that it may be used in various different manners.

Still a further object of the invention resides in a novel construction and arrangement of parts whereby each time a paint brush is removed from the device, a signal will be given.

Still a further object of the invention resides in a new and novel construction which is simple in operation and economic of manufacture.

With the above and other objects in View reference will be had to the accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of one of the units forming an important part of the device,

Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view on an enlarged scale taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1,

Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken substantially on the line 33 of Figure 2,

Figure 6 is a perspective view illustrating the manner in which the panel member as illustrated in Figures 4 and 5 is employed in combination with a unit,

Figure 8 is a perspective view illustrating the manner in which a number of units may be secured together to provide a multiple unit display device.

Referring to the drawings, and particularly to Figures 1 to 3, the device comprises a base member A. This base member A is formed from semi-flexible material such for example as sheet metal and has an inclined top wall It]. This inclined top wall H) has a plurality of openings H arranged in pairs, which openings preferably extend in a straight line transversely of the top wall Ill. The base member, as illustrated in Figure 2, has a bottom wall l2 which is bent upwardly at its freeend as at l3, and suitable supporting feet M are provided.

Extending transversely of the under face of the inclined top wall In there is a rigid member I5, and this rigid member is secured as by nails, screws or the like IE to the inner face of the inclined top wall It. This rigid member provides the means for carrying a plurality of article retaining elements ll. As best illustrated in Figure 1, these elements H are arranged in pairs and, as shown in Figure 3 the elements in each pair are angularly disposed in such manner that they converge towards each other. An enlarged head porton I8 is formed upon the free end of each of these elements I! preferably by forming a turn in the end of the member, it being understood that the member is formed from wire or similar material.

By this construction and arrangement of parts, the article, which in the present instance is a paint brush, may be positioned upon the inclined wall Ill with its handle between the elements forming one of the pairs of elements, and said brush will be retained in position by the means I1. By angular disposition of the elements I! in each pair, the space between the enlarged head portions thereof is contracted so that the elements will be set in vibration by the removal of a brush from its display position, and this vibration will set up a sound of a more or less musical character and attract attention to the fact that a paint brush is being taken from the display. This is an important feature of the invention since it lessens the possibility of picking up of the paint brushes or other articles without being observed by the clerk or attendant.

Extending upwardly from the rear end of the base member A there is a member B. This member B is'formed of sheet metal or other similar semi-flexible material and has an inclined front wall 20 from which project rearwardly extending sides 2|. Flanges are provided and screws or the like 22 are employed to secure this member B in position upon the base member II].

It will be obvious that the top wall ill of the base member A and the front wall 20 of the base member B may be provided with any advertising copy desired.

In Figures 4 and 5 I have shown a panel which comprises a main body portion 38 formed of sheet metal or similar material. This body portion 30 has side flanges 3| which are provided with elongated openings 32. The panel 30 may be supported in display position in which it is illustrated in Figure 5 by an easel or the like 33, the

end portions 34 of which are off-set and receive the eyes 35 secured to the rear face of the panel 30. This panel member 30 is provided with the article holding means heretofore described and serves to support the articles to be displayed upon the front face thereof when the device is in display position.

The panel member 30, as shown in Figure 6, may be used in combination with one of the units comprising the members A and B, and when this is done, the panel member is placed with its flange adjacent one side wall of the member 20 and a bolt 35 is passed through the opening 32 in the flange 3| of the member 30, and an opening 36 in one of the side walls 2| of the member B. By this construction it will be obvious that the panel member 30 may be secured in position to support a plurality of articles which will be, elevated with respect to those carried by the base member A.

It will be obvious by reference to Figure 8 that several of these units may be secured together to form a single display device and when this is done the panel member 30, heretofore referred to, is secured to the member B of the central unit A and to the member B of each of the end units by bolts such as 35, heretofore described.
