Description
PATENTED OCT. 9, 1906.
B. LANDAU. CASH PAYING SHOVBL. APPLICATION FILED JAN.23, 1906.
ham/0r fim 7n: ualuus rn-lns co, WASHINGTON, n. c,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 9, 1906.
Application filed January 28, 1906. Serial No. 297,515. I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERNHARD LANDAU, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Vienna, in the Province of Lower Austria and Empire of Austria-Hungary, have invented a new and useful Cash-Paying Shovel, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the devices by means of which change is in shops returned to purchasers; and it has for its object to provide a cheap and easil -manageable device of this kind which first allows the coins to be arrayed side by side, so that they can easily be counted, and afterward enables them to be at once slid into the hand of the customer, which thus avoids the troublesome picking up of the coins.
According to my invention the cash-paying shovel is formed of a plate having a handle and having its lateral and rear edges bent up, while a gutter, one end of which is open, is formed along the front edge. In order to keep the bottom of this shovel in horizontal position, notwithstanding there being the gutter, the shovel is provided with legs.
In the annexed sheet of drawings, Figure 1 is a top view, and Fig. 2 a sectional side elevation, of a cash-paying shovel embodying my invention.
Referring to' the drawings, a, is a plate upon which the coins are counted, and the rear portion of which carries a handle I). The lateral and rear marginal portions 0 of the plate a are bent up, and the front edge is made integral With a gutter at, either end of which is open. By the described construction of the shovel the operator is enabled to cause the coins, by lowering the front end of the shovel, to slide into the gutter and afterward to cause them, by lowering the open end of the gutter, to slide into the palm or receptacle below the said open end. The wire legs 6 keep the shovel in horizontal position when it is placed upon a table.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a cash-paying shovel, the combination with a plane plate of a handle secured to its rear end, an upright rim or flange along the lateral and rear edges of the plate, and a gutter formed along the front edge and being open at either end, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. In a cash-paying shovel, the combination With a plane plate of a handle secured to its rear end, lateral and rear flanges, a gutter along the front edge, and legs of such lengths as to keep the plate in horizontal position When resting on a horizontal support, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In witness whereof I have signed this specification in presence of two witnesses.
BERN HARD LANDAU.
Witnesses VICTOR KERPL,
ALvEsTo S. HOGUE.
