CHARLES A. WARFIELD, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BENCH-KNIVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 156,002, dated October 13, 1874; application filed April 8, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. WARFIELD, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvementin Bench- Knife; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, in Which Figure 1 is an enlarged perspective of my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of my invention in position when in use. Fig. 3 isa front or edge view.
My invention has for its object to provide a proper substitute for the device ordinarily employed by carpenters, and known as a bench-knife, being usually the blade of a case-knife. My invention consists of a tool constructed as herein described and shown in the annexed drawing.
It consists of a single piece of metal, preferably cast-steel, of the peculiar shape shown, having two points, a a, one for insertion in the bench and the other for engagement with the stuff being Worked up by the carpenter,
and projections or ears I) b, forming a boss. I) to enable it to be readily withdrawn from the wood by the aid of the claw-hammer. What I claim as my invention is As a new article of manufacture, a benchknife, constructed substantially as shown and described.
