JULIE-N STRANDERS, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO ATLANTA LITHO- GRAPHIC AND PRINTING COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
nAsnL.
Application filed December 28, 1916. Serial No. 139,352.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIEN S'rnANnnns', a subject of the King of Great Britain, and resident of Brooklyn, Kings county, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Easels, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to easels for exhibiting cards or other articles and has for its objects the provision of such an easel made from a single piece of sheet material; an easel which is so creased that it may be collapsed. and lie absolutely fiat thereby taking up a minimum of room and permitting the easy assembling and disassembling of the same; to provide a support which is entirely selfcontained and can be assembled in operative position without the use of any outside agency, such as rivets, mucilage and so forth; and to provide a support which will be exceedingly strong and offer the maximum supporting strength for the material used. Other objects will be obvious from the following description taken in connection with the drawings in which,
Figure 1 is a view of the support in collapsed or fiat position and showing the creases and slits therein;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the support in upright or assembled position;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the support in operative position.
As clearly shown in Fig. 1, the support is made from a single piece of sheet material and consists of the front plate or section 10 and the two side sections or standards 12 and 13. A tongue 11 is formed from the front section 10 by means of the crease 16, the two side cuts 21 and 22 and the transverse cut 23. The latter cut extends between the two creases 241 and 25 which permit the standards 12 and 13 to be bent backward from the front section 10. At its opposite edges the tongue 11 is provided with two slits 17 and 18 for a purpose presently to be described. The standards 12 and 13 are formed with two creases 26 and 27 extending parallel to the creases 24 and 25 and at their upper and lower ends having the cuts 28, 29, 30 and 31 extending between the creases 26, 27 on the one hand and 241, 25
The cuts 28 and 29 and the The on the other. slits 17 and 18 lie in a straight line.
and 15 are bent up at substantially right angles to the standards 12 and 13 so that the slits 17, 18, 19 and 20 will-cooperate to hold the said tongues in interlocked position as shown in Fig. 3.
It will thus be apparent that an easel is provided which may be very cheaply manufactured from sheet material with a minimum number of operations, that the easel may be assembled from its flat position into operative position very easily and quickly, and that when so assembled a device is provided which is exceedingly stable and strong.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
1. An easel comprising a front plate inclined to the base plane of the easel, a side standard hinged to each of the upright edges of said plate, atongue extending rearwardly from said plate and having a slit 2. An easel comprising a front plate inchned to the base plane of the easel, a side standard hinged to each of the upright 'edges of said plate, a tongue extending rearwardly from said plate and having a slit at the two edges in contact with the side standards, a tongue on each of the side standards adapted to be arranged in the adjacent slit and each having a slit adapted to receive the first mentioned tongue. 3. An easel comprising a front plate inclined to the base plane of the easel, a side standard hinged to each of the upright edges of said plate, a tongue extending rearwardly from said plate, a tongue on each of the side standards arranged substantially parallel to the said plate and having a slit substantially midway of its height adapted to receive the first mentioned "tongue.
In'testimony whereof I affix my signature.
JULIEN STRANDERS.
