UNITEn STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS J. GRAHAM, or MOBILE, ALABAMA.
PAPER-BAG HOLDER.
SPEIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 256,138, dated April 11, 1882.
Application filed September 17, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Beitknown thatLTHoMAsJ.GRAHAM,acitizen of the United States of America, residing at Mobile,in the countyot' Mobile and State ofAlabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-Bag Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad tothe accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings represents a top view of the device. Fig. 2 is a side view with bags in position for'removal.
My invention relates to paper-bag holders; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of the several parts, as will be hereinafterfully set forth.
The accompanying drawings fully illustrate my invention.
A is a straight flat iron or brass rod of any desired length, and constitutes the back of the holder. Its lower end is bent at right angles to it, forming a support, a, upon which rest It has formed on its lower end a small upward projection, a, adapted to hold the bags upon the support and to prevent more than the required number from being withdrawn.
Firmly secured across the rod A are the arms B. They have rigidly fastened to theirelasticity. The spring is then bent downward and across the rod A, as shown.
Placed around the horizontal portion of the 40 spring is the roller D, which acts. to stiffen the spring and enables the bags to be easily withdrawn from the holder.
Secured by any suitable means to the top of the holder is a hook, d, by which the spring is held up out of the way when the bags are placed in the holder.
In the operation of my device the bags are placed under the roller D, next to the rod A, their lower ends resting upon the support a 0 and Within the projection upon its outer end.
In the upper end of the rod A is formed a suitable attach ment by which the device may be hung up.
What I claim is- 1. In a paper-bag holder, the rod A, having formed upon its bottom the support a and its projection a, and having secured across it the arms B, to which are attached the spring 0, around the horizontal portion of which is the roller'D, all arranged to operate as described.
2. In a paper-bag holder consisting of the rod A, the support a and its projection a, and hool; 61, operating in combination with the spring 0 and roller 1), adapted to retain the bags securely within the holder and to enable them to be easily withdrawn in desired quantities, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS J. GRAHAM.
