Description

(No Model.)
J. FEESS. I BAG HOLDER.
N0. 409,946. Patented Aug. 27, 1889.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN FEESS, OF NEAR FRENCH CAMP, CALIFORNIA.
BAG-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 409,946, dated August 27, 1889. Application filed May 29, 1889. Serial No. 312,628- (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JOHN FEEss, a citizen of the United States, residing near French Camp, in the county of San Joaquin and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in BagHolders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to bag or sack holders, and aims to provide a device to which the bag or sack can be readily applied and from which it can be quickly detached, and which is adapted to sacks of different sizes within certain limits.
The improvement consists of the novel features, which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and which are shown in the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a sackholder embodying my invention; Fig. 2, a side view showing the operation of the pivot-ed arm by dotted lines; Fig. 3, a detail perspective view showing the pivoted lever and the lower end of the support to which the said lever is pivoted. Fig. at is a side view of a modification.
The holder is composed of two corresponding parts, each consisting of the yielding arm A and the pivoted lever B. The arm A and the lever B are each provided on their lower ends with means for engaging with the sack, which in the present case are shown as consisting of hooks a and b, respectively. The lever B has its upper end 1) extended forward at right angles, and said end I) is adapted to engage with one of a series of notches a in the arms A. The arms A and the levers B are attached to a suitable support, as C.
The arm A may be connected with the support 0 in any desired manner. It may be extended up against the support, as shown by full lines in Fig. 2, or it may be bent between its ends, presenting in side elevation the form of an inverted U, the inner branch A of which is fastened to the support O. The lever B has a pivotal connection with reference to support 0, which connection may be independent of the arm A or attach ed thereto, as shown most clearly in Figs. 1 and 4.
The support 0 maybe the side of a wall or other structure, or it may be a vertical plank. In the latter case it will be provided with a suitable base D.
The application of the device is as follows: The sack is placed with its inner side over the prongs b and its outer side over the prongs a. When the sack is filled, it is detached by releasing the ends Z) of the levers B from the arms A, when said levers will turn down, as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 2, the hooks 1) being withdrawn from the sack, as will be readily understood. By reason of the elasticity of the arms A and the adjustability of the levers B the holder is capable of supporting sacks of different sizes within certain limits.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
1. The combination, with the yielding arm having means for engaging with the sack, of the pivoted lever also having means for engaging with the sack, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination, with the yielding arm provided with means for engaging with the sack, of the pivoted lever adapted to engage with said arm for holding it in a predetermined position and having sack-retaining means, substantially as set forth.
The combination, with the inverted-U- shaped support, of the lever pivoted to the inner branch of the support and adapted to engage with the outer branch or arm, substantially as specified.
at. The herein-described bag-holder, composed of the two arms A, having prongs at their lower ends and notches in their edges, and having the inner branches A, the levers B, pivoted to the lower ends of branches A and having their upper ends bent and adapted to engage with the notches in the edges of the arms A and provided with hooks at their lower ends, and the support 0, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN FEESS.
Witnesses:
