To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J OSEPH E. HULL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rodamers, in the county of. Preston and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sack- Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to improvements in devices for holding sacks, bags, and the like while they are being filled with grain or other material.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple and practical device of this character which may be applied to a wall or any other upright support and the parts of which may be quickly and easily ad usted to support diiferent sized bags.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention showing a sack or bag suspended therefrom; Fig. 2 is a detail vertical section through the device; and Fig. 3 isa detail horizontal section taken on the plane indicated by the line 83 in Fig. 2.

The invention comprises an upright 1 preferably made a part of a Ushaped bracket 2, the parallel arms of which have outturned apertured ends 3 which may be secured to a Wall or other vertical support by screws or similar fastenings. The upright portion 1 of the supporting bracket is formed with a longitudinal series of seats 4 preferably in the form of openings cut in a centrally arranged, longitudinally extending rib 5 which is pressed out of the upright portion 1 of the bracket for the purpose of reinforcing said portion.

The sack or bag S which is to be supported is arranged upon a member 6 slidably and adjustably mounted on the upright 1L Said member 6 is in the form of a slide'having suitable bag engaging means and a catch or dog to engage the seats 4 and thereby retain the member or slide in an adjusted position. As illustrated, said member or slide 6 is formed from a single piece or strap of metal by bendin the same upon itself at its center to provi e a rearwardly extending arm 7, then bending its intermediate portions outwardly in opposite directions to provide opposing loop portions 8 to slidably engage the opposite edges of the upright 1, and then bending the extremities or ends of said metal strap to provide opposing curved or arc-shaped sack distending arms 9. Owing to the resiliency of the metal strap, the arms 9 may be sprung together to permit them to enter the open top or mouth of the sack, thereby enabling the use of sacks hav ing different diameters on the device, and said spring arms 9 are provided upon their outer. faces with hook-shaped spurs 10 or equivalent means for engaging the sack and retaining it upon the arms. In the bottom edges of the inner ortions of said arms are formed notches 11 in which the edge of the sack may be arranged, as shown in Fig. 1. The loop portions 8 are retained in engagement with the upright 1 by means of a rivet, bolt or similar transverse fastening 12 passed through the spaced side portions of the rear arm 7 and said part 12 serves the further purpose of a pivot for the catch or dog 13. The latter is disposed in the rear arm 7 and hung at a point intermediate its.

ends from the pivot 12, its forward end being shaped to provide a dog proper 14 which swings into and out of engagement with one of the seats or openings 4 in the upright 1. The other or rear end of said catch is made of suflicient size and weight to overbalance the end 14 and to provide both a stop and a hand piece. As illustrated, said rear end has a depending portion 15, the extremity of which extends upwardly and out of the top of the arm 7 and it is bent rearwardly to provide a finger piece 16 which rests u on the upper end of the arm 7 when the 0g or end 14 enters one "of the seats 4. It will be seen that when the finger piece 16 is lifted the dog 14 will be swung rearwardly out of engagement with the upright 1 and that when said finger piece is released the catch will drop to its locked position shown in Fig. 2. While said catch 13 is shown in the drawings as made from a single piece of wire, it will be understood that it may be otherwise constructed. The use of the invention will be readily understood upon reference to Fig. 1. It will be noted that the bracket may be attached to a wall or any upright support and that the bag carrying slide or member 6 may be quickly and easily adjusted vertically upon it to accommodate bags of diflerent lengths and further that posed connecting portion of the bracket and a catch upon said bag supporting member and adapted to engage said seats.

A device of the character described comprising a bracket for attachment to an up- I right support and provided with an upright L portion having a longitudinal series of seats, a horizontally disposed, vertically adjustable member consisting of oppositely dis posed intermediate loops to slidably engage of the bracket, a rearwardly extending open arm, and forwardly extending oppositely curved arms, means upon the latter for engaging and supporting a sack, and a pivoted and adapted to engage said seats in the upri ht portion of the bracket.
