This invention relates to new and useful improvements in bag holders and the primary object of the present invention is to provide a device for holding bags and the like including novel and improved means for selectively releasing the bag from the holder.
Another important object of the present inven tion is to provide a bag holder and releaser ineluding a plurality of pivotal bag supporting elements that are so designed as to conveniently engage a bag to support the same in an easily accessible position.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a bag holder and releaser including novel and improved means for resetting the release mechanism after the same has been actuated.
A still further aim of the present invention is to provide a bag holder and releaser that is simple and practical in construction, strong and reliable in use, neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which- Figure l is a plan view of the bag holder and Referring now to the drawings in detail,
wherein for the purpose of illustration, there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral H3 represents an annular open frame or rim having a plurality of circumferentlally spaced detents or seats l2, It, 18 and I 8 each of which receives a substantially triangular bag supporting member 28 having a pointed extremity 22.
Removably secured by fasteners 24 and brackets 26 to the irmer periphery of the frame It,
is an arcuate tubular guide element 28 that extends through circumferentially aligned apertures 3! and 32 provided in each of the seats l2 and It. The open ends M and 36 of this tubular element 28 terminate and are fitted in apertures 38 and 48 provided in the remaining seats l6 and I8.
Slidably mounted in the tubular element 28 and in sleeves t2 and l fixedly secured to the outer periphery of the frame, adjacent the seats It and l 8, is a flexible wire or tightly coiled spring element 36 which is rigidly secured to the base portion 38 of the bag supporting members 29.
Removably secured to the outer periphery of the frame Ill, between the seats H3 and I 8, by the use of fasteners 58, are the outturned ends 52 of an outwardly projecting yoke 54. The spaced parallel legs 56 and 58 of this yoke are provided with opposed apertures fill which engage suitable ball bearings 62 rotatably supporting a shaft 64, the reduced ends 66 and 68 of which project outwardly from the legs 5-5 and 58 and are rigidly secured by welding or the like to the terminals l6 and M of the flexible wire 46. Retaining plates M and i6 removably secured by fasteners it to the outer face of the legs 5% and 58 bear against the flanged portion 8% of the bearing M and prevent outward movement of the bearing 52 relative to the opening 5t.
Positioned for rotation between the legs 56 and 58, is a wheel 82 that is fixed upon the shaft 64 by a fastener 5. This wheel supports a fixed arm 86 that is connected to one end of a coil spring 88. The opposite, free end of this coil spring 88 is secured to an ear 9H3 rigidly carried by one of the legs, for example leg 5t. This spring normally retains the wheel in such a position that the ba engaging members will be raised, as shown best in Figures 2 and 4.
Removably secured to a U-shaped frame 9| rigidly carried by the yoke, is a pair of fulcrums that pivotaily engage one end 93 of a lever or handle ti l. central reduced portion 86 of this lever 94 is pivoted to the bifurcated end 98 of a locking pin I86 that is slidably mounted in an opening 582 provided in the web portion of memher 9! and an opposed opening HM provided in a guide plate let rigidly secured between the legs of member 9!.
A coil spring ltB carried by a fixed ear H0 mounted on member 9! is connected to the lever 96 to urge the pin Hi0 downwardly to bear upon the surface of the wheel 82.
The operation of the device is as follows :v
The pin Hill is locked in a recess H2 in the wheel 82 in such a position that the spring 88 is not in tension, and so that the members 20 will be in a raised position as shown in Figure 4. Potatoes or the like are placed in the bag H4, with the member 20 still raised as the wheel 82 as previously stated, is locked by the pin H10 seated in the recess I I2. Upon raising the lever 94, the pin I80 will disengage the recess H2, and the weightof the bag'l l4' and the articles therein will pivot the members-20 downwardly effecting a rotation of the element 46, a like rotation of the wheel 82, and a releasing of the bag. As the Wheel 82 is rotated the pin I will. engage a. recess H8 on the wheel to again lock the wheel 82, but this time the spring 88 is in tension so that when the lever 94 is again raised, the wheelwill rotate to its normal position, pin I90 will reengage the recess I I2 and the members 2'0 will be again raised for reuse of'the device.
It should be noted that one arm H8 is rigidly secured tothe framel9 and removably supports a handle 12a for steadying the device in use, and that a U-shaped hanger- I22 having its ends H4 and M fixedly secured to the frame is provided with an eye portion 1.28 1501 engaging a suitable supporting structure such as a scale book or the like (not shown). 1
In view of the foregoingdescription taken in conjimction withthe accompanying drawings it is believed that. a. clear understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of the device will be quite. apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be. understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is.-
susceptible to certain changes fully comprehendedby thespirit'oi the invention as herein described and the scope of theappended claims.
Having described .the invention,- what is claimed as new is:
1. A bag holder comprising an annular open frame, hanger means. carried by said frame'for engaging a supporting structure, a tightly coiled spring element rotatably and. slidably carried by said frame, a plurality of circumferentially spaced bag supporting members fixed to said element, meansac-ting on said element for normally retaining said members in a raised position for supporting a bag, and means for rotating said element to actuate said. members to a lowered position for releasinga bag.
2. A bag holder comprising an annular open frame, hanger means carried by said frame for engaging a supporting structure, a plurality of circumferentially spaced recesses provided in said frame, a bag engaging member pivotally mounted in each of-the recesses, meansnormally retaining said members in. a raised position for supporting a bag, and means. for simultaneously actuating said membersto a lowerposition for releasing a bag.
3. The. combination-ofclaim. 2- wherein said bag supporting members include substantially triangular elements pivotally secured at their bases to said frame.
4. The combination of claim 2 wherein said retaining means includes resilient means.
5. A bag holder comprising an annular open frame, hanger means carried by said frame for engaging a supporting structure, a plurality of circumferentially spaced recesses provided in said frame, a bag engaging member pivotally mounted in each of the recesses, a yoke carried by the frame, a wheel journaled for rotation on the yoke, spring means carried by the wheel and connected to the" bag supporting; members for normally retaining the latter in a'raised position, means for locking said wheel in a normal position, and means for releasing said wheel locking means to lower said bag-engaging members.

A bag holder comprising an annular open frame, hanger means carried by said frame for engaging. a supporting structure, a plurality of circumferentially spaced recesses provided in said frame, a bag engaging member pivotally mounted in each of the recesses, a yoke carried by the frame, a wheel journaled for rotation on said yoke, spring. means. carried by said wheel andconnected to. each of said bag supporting mem-- bers, further spring means. acting upon said wheelfcr actuating said. members in a lowered position, means for locking said wheel in an adjusted position for retaining said members in. a raised position, and means for actuating said locking means.
7. A bag holder comprising a. frame, hanger means carried by said frame for engaging a supporting structure, a plurality of spaced seats provided in said frame, a bag engaging member disposed in. each of said seats for pivotal movement, a support carried by said frame, a wheeljournaled for rotation on said support, resilient means carried. by said wheel and connected to each of said bag supporting members, further resilient means acting upon said wheel. for actuating said members in a lowered position, means for locking. said Wheel in an adjusted position for retaining said members in a raised position, and means for actuating said locking means.

A bag holder comprising an endlessframe, a tightly coiled spring element, means carried by said frame slidably supporting said element, a plurality of bagsupporting members fixed to said element, a support carried. by said frame, a wheeliournaled for rotation on the support and con-- nected to said element for rotating the latter toraise and lower said members, said members being retained in a normally raised position, spring means acting upon said wheel for actuating. said members ina lowered position, means for locking said Wheel in an adjusted position for retaining said members in a normally raised position, and means controlling said locking means.
