To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE GARRA'r'r KENT, a subject of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at No. 5 Kitchiner road, East Michley, London, in the county of Middlesex, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in and Relating to Crochet Cotton or 001 Holding Devices, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in revolving holders for balls, or bobbins, of wound cotton, wool, silk, yarn, or other like material, and has particular reference to that class of device in which balls, bobbins, or the like, of crochet cotton, or Wool, are suspended to enable the ball or bobbin to be readily unwound during the operation of crocheting and knitting. Heretofore other devices for these purposes have been employed, consisting, in one instance, of a closed wire frame to contain or holdcotton or wool, wound upon it, having a hooked link in which the upper end of the frame rotates, and an open hook for attachment to the garment of the operator, while for suspending the balls a straight wire rod provided at its lower end with a pivoted" cross bar at right angles thereto, against which the ball loosely rests, has been used, the upper end of the wire having a hooked link, and open hook. Such open hooks are liable to cause damage to the wearer or anyone coming in contact with same. A safety pin, having a twisted loop on one of its bars, and adapted to receive a rotatable link attached to a spring hook for suspending the holder from a garment or table-cloth has also been proposed, but the constant insertion of the safety pin, tends to damage the garment or material to which it is afiixed when brought into use.

The object of my invention is not only to avoid these defects but to provide an improved device by the use of novel and simpler means. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l. is a front elevation of my improved device. Fig. 2. is a side elevation of same. Fig. 3. is a front elevation of the device with the bolt ring removed, when it is not desired to use same, and Fig. 4:. is a side elevation of Fig. 3.

My invention comprises an improved holder and base piece for the ball, or bobbin, and the combination therewith of a revolving spring swivel which may be suspended by a bolt or spring ring, or may be capable of attachment to an ordinary bracelet, or bangle worn by the operator, or the swivel holder and base piece may be attached direct to a bracelet, or bangle, forming part of the device.

Referring to the drawing, Fig. 1, A is the holder, B the base piece for supporting the ball, or bobbin, C, which is indicated in dotted lines, such holder consisting of a wire or any other material, and provided at its upper end with a narrow half round bend D, and bowed outward from the center, the legs as they descend to their ends E being brought closer together again and placed in the base, which may be formed of a disk of metal or any other nonflexible material, of any diameter or thickness, to allow the legs to be held secure to the base B. At the up,- per end of the improved holder a revolving spring swivelF, or the like, is attached, and

in the rotating ring Ur of the swivel a bolt ring, or spring ring H, may be inserted, to

allow of the swivel, holder and base, being suspended from the bracelet, or bangle 1,. when such bracelet or bangle does not form part of the device. The holder is adapted to fit more or less tightly in the hole or center of a crochet ball, bobbin, or the like, and the base prevents any possibility of the ball, or bobbin, falling from the holder. The holder is disconnected from the swivel F, to enable the ball, or bobbin, to be placed in position for use.

As illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4, I may dispense with the bolt ring, H, shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and connect the revolving spring swivel F, or the like, directly to the bracelet or bangle 1.

Apparatus of the character described is exceedingly serviceable, and of general utility for the purpose intended. It is readily brought into use, and easily attached. or detached, to allow the crochet ball, or bobbin being placed in position, while it insures the free unwinding of the ball, or bobbin, during the operation of crocheting, or knitting.

What I claim is: 1. In a device for holdmg crochet cotton,

wool or the like in ball form, a flat base member, a spindle secured centrally thereto and projecting upwardly at right angles to the plane of said base, said spindle having a loop at its upper end and being designed to frictionally receive and hold the material thereon against rotation with respect to the spindle, an open bracelet to be fitted to the user and a hook swivel detachably connected to the loop portion of the spindle and engaged with the bracelet to permit the spindle, base and ball of material to rotate with respect to the bracelet, as one.

2. A portable and revolving, holder for balls of crochet cotton and the like in wound form, comprisinga solid base in the form of a plate, a spindle secured thereto centrally and, extending at right angles therefrom, said spindle comprising a wire member re.- bent intermediate its ends and with its free ends brought together and anchored in the base, the leg portions between the rebent part and said ends being bowed outwardly to. frictionally engage and hold the ball of material thereon, said base preventing displacement of said material from said spin dle, and a swivel secured to the bight por- 1 tion of thespindle and adapted for attachmentto the bracelet of an operator.

4. A portable and revolving holder for balls of crochet-cottonvand the like in wound form, comprising arsolid base in thejform of a plate, a spindle secured thereto centrally and extending at right angles therefrom, said spindle comprising a wire member rebent intermediate its ends and with 1ts tree ends brought together and anchored in the base, the leg portions between the rebent part and said ends being bowedoutwardly to frictionally engage and hold the ball of material thereon, said base preventing displacementof said material fronrsaid:

spindle, a swivel secured to the rebent upper end of the spindle to permitv saidspindle, base and material to revolve with respect thereto, an expansible bracelet and means for detachably connecting the swivel to the bracelet.
