Be it known'that I, PETER IsRAnLsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rainey, in the county of Morrison and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag-Holders; and I do hereby declare the followingto be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention has for its object to provide an extremely simple and highly efficient bag-holder; and, to this end, it consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and del-ined in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.

Referring to the drawings,

Figure l is a perspective view showing the improved bag-holder detachably secured to a board-like support and holding a bag diagrammatically illustrated by means of broken lines;

Fig. 2 is a view principally in side elevation of the parts shown in Fig. 1;

Fig. 3 is a fragmentary plan view, with some parts shown in different positions by means of broken lines; and

Fig. 4 is a fragmentary detail view, with some parts sectioned on the line 4-4 of Fig. l.

The improved bag-holder comprises a pair of laterally spaced arms l having rearwardly converging intermediate portions 2 and rear end portions 3, which are in relatively close and parallel relation. As shown, each arm is formed from a single flat bar turned into a vertical position and bent as shown. The free ends of the arm portions 3 are twisted at right angles and bent vertically downward to afford a pair of depending flat hooks 4.

The arms are yieldingly connected by a 'U-shape member 5 for a limited lateral separation. This member 5 is located forward of the hooks 4 and its upper ends are riveted, one to each of the arm portions 3. The spacing of the member 5 from the hooks 4 affords crotches 6 between the same. These rcrotches 6 are adapted to straddle a board Z or similar support and detachably secure the improved bag-holder thereto. As

shown in Figs. l and 2, the lower edges of the arm portions 3 rest directly on the upper edge of the board Zwith the hooks 4 engaging the back thereof and the transverse portion of the member 5 engaging the face thereof and holding the arms in substan tially horizontal position.

Three depending bag-holding hooks T are rigidly secured, one to the outer end of the left hand arm l and the other two thereof are secured, one to the intermediate portion 3 of said arms. A fourth bagsholding hook S is mounted on the right hand arm l for longitudinal sliding movement thereon. This hook 8 has formed in its body a rectangular aperture 9, through which the respective arm l projects. A forwardly and horizontally extended hand lever l0 is integrally formed with the upper end of the hook 8 and is provided for twisting said hook, either in a horizontal or vertical plane, and sliding the same bodily on the respective arm l. A transverse pin l1 in the outer end of the right hand arm l prevents the hook 8 from being detached therefrom.

A bag Z is indicated by broken lines and supported on the hooks 7 and 8. To secure a bag in a filling position on the improved bag-holder, the hook 8 is first moved in a direction away from the pin l1. The mouth of the bag is then opened and the marginal edge portion hung first on the three outturned hooks 7 and then on the hook 8, which, as best shown in Fig. 4, is also turned outward and at an angle to the overlying arm 1. At the same time the bag is secured to the hook 8, said hook is slid onto the respective arm l toward the pin 11. This action of the hook 8 will stretch the mouth of the bag and hold the same open, as best shown in Fig. l. The pulling strain on the hook `8, produced by the stretched mouth of the bag Z, will cause a twisting movement of said hook in both horizontal and vertical planes. This twisting movement of the hook 8 will cause the same, surrounding the aperture 9, to bite the respective arm l and frictionally hold the hook S where set.

To release the bag Z from the hooks 'T and 8, the lever 10 is iirst manipulated to carry the hook 8 out of biting engagement. with From the above description, it is evident that the improved bag-holder may be detachably secured to any suitable support, such as a portion of a building structure, a Wagon boX or the like, and When not in use, it may be lifted therefrom and hung up or otherwise stored out of the Way. In securing a bag on the hooks 7 and 8, the arms 1 Will be slightly drawn togetherand when released, Will further assist in stretching the mouth of the bag. These arms Will also yield through the U-shape member 5, under the load placed in the bag, and thus prevent the bag-holder from bending or breaking under undue strains. Vhat I claim 1s:-`

A bag holder comprising a pair of later- Y ally spaced independent arms having hooks at their rear ends, a U,shape member yieldingly connecting said arms for parallel angular twisting movements in respect to each other, said member being spaced apart from the hooks to afford a crotch ltherebetween, said crotch arranged to straddle a support and` detachably secure the bag holder thereto, and bag .holding devices on said arms, one of which is adjustable;
