Be it known that I, OSCAR CRONHOLM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fairfield township, in the county of Palo Alto and State of Iowa, have invented a certain new and useful Bag-Holder, of which the following is a specification.

sive construction that. may be suspended from a nail or similar support or that may be hooked over a partition or the like and that will permanently and securely hold the top of a bag in such a manner that the bag may be readily filled and to engage and hold the bag without perforating same and without having sharpened projections enter the bag. My invention consists in the construction of the bag holder, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows a perspective view of the bag holder with a portion of a bag applied thereto as in practical use, and Fig. 2 shows a top or plan view of the bag holder.

The bag holder is formed complete of a single piece of spring wire. The central portion thereof is formed into a loop 10 and adjacent to the loop is a straight portion 11 formed by twisting the parts of the wire together, Below the straight portion 11 is a hook 12 formed by bending the doubled wire and below the hook 12 is a straight portion 13 in line with the part 11, also formed of twisted wire. At the bottom of the part 13, the wires extend straight outwardly at 14 away from each other. At the ends of the part 14, the wires are inclined straight downwardly at 15 and then outwardly at 16 parallel with the parts 1 1, thus forming shoulders over which the edge of the bag-may project, as shown in Fig. 1. At the ends of the parts 16, the wires are extended at right angles forming the sides 17. At the outer ends of the sides, the wire inclines straight inwardl toward each other at 18 parallel with the parts 16 forming shoulders for the front cor- At the ends of the shoulders 18, the ends of the wire extend straight upwardly at 19, forming stops to hold the side edges of the bag and to limit their inward movement. The width of the holder between the sides 17 is slightly greater than the width of the mouth of the bag and the distance between the parts 15 and 19 is approximately the same as the width of the mouth of a bag from front to rear.

In practical use, the holder is supported above a floor either by the loop 10 or the hook 12 far enough to permit the bottom of a bag to rest upon the floor and the top to be supported by the holder. Then the mouth of the bag is stretched to permit the sides near the mouth to overlap the shoulders 16 and 18 and to be stretched tight between the sides 17 and between the front and. rear of the holder. By making the holder of spring wire, the sides 17 will tend to spring outwardly away from each other so as to tightly stretch the front and rear edges of the mouth of a bag and thus prevent the sides of the bag from slipping down over the sides 17 of the holder. Bags are usually made with a doubled or reinforced edge around the mouth which will not readily stretch and the material of the bag below the mouth is flexible enough to permit the sides 17 to spring outwardly far enough to securely hold the top edges of the bag without having any sharpened projections or gripping devices provided for holding the bag. One of the great advantages attained by the use of my improved holder is that the bag may be quickly adjusted to position and removed without the delay incident to fastening gripping devices to the edges of the bag and also without perforating the bag by sharpened projections, which obviously is objectionable because it tends to quickly wear out the bag.
