UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DANIEL A. A. BUCK, OF CHESHIRE, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE D. A. A. BUCK COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
SPOON-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 402,716, dated May '7, 1889.
Application filed March 26, 1889. Serial No. 304,902. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL A. A. BUCK, re-
I siding at Cheshire, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spoon-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in spoon-holders, the object being to provide for the purpose indicated a simple, cheap, and convenient device adapted to be applied to'the neck of any ordinary bottle.
With these ends in view my invention consists in a spoon-holder having certain details of construction, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a viewin perspective of a bottle having my improved spoon-holder applied to it and shown as holding a spoon, and Fig. 2 is a detached plan view of the spoon-holder.
As herein shown, the holder consists of a single piece of light wire bent about midway of its length to form two coils, A A, and two curved arms, B B, terminating in fingers C C, turned outward away from each other, the said coils, arms, and fingers being located in the same plane. The coils have the twofold function of holding the spoon, the handle whereof is sprung edgewise between them, and of permitting the curved arms to separate to receive the-bottle-neck between them and then of holding them thereupon.
The holder is applied to a bottle by pressing its outwardly-turned fingers against the neck thereof, whereby the coils are sprung and the arms separated to receive the bottleneck between them, after which the coils clasp the arms thereupon. The spoon-handle is pressed edgewise between the two coils, which separate laterally to receive it in a horizontal position with its bowl up, so that nothing will drip out of it. The lateral spring between the two coils presses them upon the handle with sufficient force to hold the spoon firmly in place, whereby the bottle may be moved about and its contents well shaken up, just as though the spoon-holder and spoon were not attached to it.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A spoon-holder consisting of a single piece of light wire bent to form coils adapted to be sprung apart to receive a spoon-handle edgewise between them, and two curved arms shaped to clasp the neck of an ordinary bottle, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
DANIEL A. A. BUCK.
