Be it known that I, ARTHUR L. WITTEN- Mrnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kirkland, in the county of King, State of l/Vashington, have invented certain new and 'useful Improvements in Hot-Plate Lifters and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear andeXact description ofthe invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertain's, to make and use the same.

This invention relates to culinary utensils and more particularly to animproved device for lifting hot plates or the like. i

The primary object of the invention is to construct a novel device'of the above character of general, utility around a kitchen or bakery for removing hot ples from an oven, 1

With the above objects and others in view as will appear as the specification proceeds, the invention comprises certain novel combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter more particularly pointed out and claimed. I

In the drawing like reference characters refer to corresponding parts, the figure being a perspective view of my. improved hot plate lifter. Referring to the drawing in detail, the device is shown as comprising a pair of opposed curved gripping arms 10 and 11 each similarly constructed of a single section of wireror the like bent intermediately as shown at 12 to provide bight portions directed outwardly substantially at right angles at the free ends of the jaws comprising'spaced top and bottom portions 13.

At the rear end of the-spaced ,top and bottom portions 13 forming the concavely arouate jaws for receiving and holding a plate or the like, the rebent portions of the. section or strand of wire, are intertwisted as shown at 14, being also directed outwardly immedi ately in front of the twisted portions forming' the shanks of thehandles, as shown at 15. Beyond said twisted portions, the rebent portions of the strand or section of wire are extended upwardly and downwardly so as to provide opposed vertical handles 18. having spaced top and bottom portionsrebent in opposite directions at. their ends as shown at 19 and each end is formed with a terminal eye 20 bent at right angles to envelop or receive-the other end portion 19 therethrough adjacent to its point of bending. This provides an effective means for anchoring the terminals and providing gripping handles to permit effective clamping of the object between the jaws of the device. v

What is claimed is 1. A hot-plate lifter comprising horizontally extending pivoted handles having plate engaging jaws with spaced top and bottom portions and a lifting handle extending transversely of the jaws and comprising V pivotally connected levers which are each loosely connected at one end with one of the jaws connected to said jaws.

2. A hot plate lifter comprising a gripping element having pivotedjaws, each in cluding spaced top and bottom portions, said top portions having inwardly extending stems, and a lifting handle comprising pivoted levers connected to said inwardly extending stems, the pivoted levers being in a handle comprising pivoted levers connected to said inwardly extended portions and formed with loops at their uppe ends, as and for the purposes specified.

41 A hot plate lifter comprising pivoted handles each formed of a single section of material bent intermediately to provide spaced top and bottom portions and then in tertwisted, the remaining portions being spaced apart to form handles extending vertically and having the ends thereof disposed in over-lapped relation at right angles to said spaced portions and formed with terminal eyes engaging the respective over-lapping portions adjacent to the spaced portions. A hot plate lifter comprising pivoted handles each formed of a single section of material bent intermediately to provide spaced top and bottom portions and then intertwisted, the ends of the rebent portions being extended upwardly and downwardly in spacedfrelation substantially parallel to each other and then bent at right angles and inter-connected, to brace said portions in spaced relation and anchor the terminals of said rebent portions.

6. A hot plate lifter comprising pivoted handles each formed of a single section of and inter-connected to brace said portions in spaced relation and anchor the terminals of said rebent portions and a lifting member comprisingpivoted leversconnected to the upper portions first mentioned.

7 Alifter of the class described comprising handles having jaws with spaced top and bottom portions and end portions directed outwardly, said handles being pivoted intermediately and formed at their opposite ends with gripping portions vertically disposed, said top portions having inwardly extending portions offset upwardly and finger gripping levers pivotedto said inwardly extended portions.

A hot plate lifter comprising a pair of handles each formed of a single section of resilient wire bent intermediately to provide bight portions directed outwardly and opposed concaved jaws having top and bottom portions and optwardly directedrear ends, the remaining portions being intertwisted and formed with intermediate eyes, a pivot engagedthrough said eyes, theremaining ends being extended in spaced relation and inter-connected to form gripping portions, said top portions having their intermediate portions intertwisted and formec with terminal loops extending upwardlyan lifting handles comprising singlesections 0 wire intertwisted and having terminal eyes engaging said loops, and intermediate eyes, and a pivot engaged through said eyes to 'pivotally connect the handles in crossed relation, the intermediate portions of the lever sections being bent. to form loops at the upper ends thereof, as and for the purposes specified.

9. A hot plate lifter comprising a pair of handles each formed of a single section of resilient wire bent interinecliately to provide bight portions directed outwardly and opposed concaved jaws having top and bottom portions and outwardly directed rear ends, the remaining portions being intertwisted and formed with intermediate eyes, a pivot engaged through said eyes,lthe remaining ends being extended in spaced relation extended in divergent relation to provide opposed vertically alined top and bottom portions with the ends thereof bent at right angles and secured in over-lapping relation.
