BAG-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 658,848, dated October 2,'1900.
Application filed June Z5, 1900.
To all whom t nfl/wy concern/ Beit known that I, OAMrLnA-M. HIRscH, a citizen of the United States, residing at'New Ulm, in the county of Brown and State of Min# nesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag-Holders; andI do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and tothe letters of reference marked thereon.
The present invention has reference tc bagholders, and has for its object to provide such a device that will be simple in construction and effective in holding the mouth of the bag open or extended and retaining the bag in an upright position to facilitate filling the same; and it consists in a bag-holder constructed substantially as shown in the drawings and hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure l of the drawings is a perspective view showing the bag-holder and bag suspended over a suitable vessel, the vessel being shown in dotted lines and the legs or supports in two positions in full and dotted lines'. Fig. 2 is adetailside elevation, on an enlarged scale, showing the manner of pivotally-connecting or hingiug the upper end of the leg to the frame of the holder.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents a suitable frame, consisting of a band of circular or other form and of metal or other suitable material,as found best adapted to the purpose. In Fig. 1 of the drawings the bag Bis shown as provided with loops or rings c for engaging the headed pins d; but this is not necessary where the spurs b are used, as the fabric of the bag may be engaged by hooking it onto the spurs, which will serve the same purpose and admit of the bag being conveniently removed when required.
The legs or supports C are pivoted-or hinged to the frame A, their upper ends bent at right angles to forma shank d to engage an eyeplate c and the extremity of the shank bent Serial No. 21,45Q. (No model.)
at a right angle, as shown atf, to prevent the shank from disengaging itself from the plate and also acting as stops for the legs or supports.
The legs or supports C have curved feet g, the curved ends of the feet being of such shape as to tit over the convex or rounded edge or rim of the fruit-jar or other vessel. The eyeplates e are of sufficient Width to provide a long bearing for the shank d of the leg or support, whereby its pivotal connection with the frame A is materially strengthened. As will be noticed, the eye-plates are secured to the band at a point above the plane of the means employed for attaching the bag to said band, so that the pivotal connection of the supports or legs therewith will not interfere with the removal of the bag from its fastenings and also admit of the bag being readily secured in place. The holder as above described is adapted for all classes of bags of whatever material and may be made of various sizes to adapt them to the use for which the holder is intended, the hinging or pivoting of the legs or supports enabling the device to be used on preservejars or other vessels having various-size openlngs.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A bag-holder, comprising a suitable band with external means for attaching a bag thereto, legs or supports having feet at their lower ends which are curved as shown to fit over the convex or rounded edge or rim of a fruitjar or other vessel, and the upper ends of the llegs or supports having right-angle shanks with their extremities extending at right angles to the shanks to secure them in place, and eye-plates for pivotally connecting the shanks to the band at a point above the plane of the means for attaching the bag, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
