To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CLARENCE F. PARK, citizen of the United States, residing at WVentworth, in the county of Lake and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sack-I-lolders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to bag holders and has for its object the provision of a comparatively simple and thoroughly efficient device of this character capable of being readily suspended from a nail or other suitable support and by means of which the mouth of a bag or sack may be conveniently held in distended position to permit the filling thereof.

A further object of the invention is to provide a bag holder including rigidly united resilient frames, one of which constitutes a hanger and the other a support for engagement with the mouth of a bag or sack, means being provided for contracting the open end of the bag supporting frame to facilitate the attachment of a bag or sack thereto.

A further object is to provide means for locking the bag supporting frame in inoperative or contracted position when placing a bag thereon, and means for causing the frame to grip the mouth of the bag when the locking means is released.

A still further object of the invention is generally to improve this class of devices, so as to increase their utility, durability and efficiency, as well as to reduce the cost of manufacture.

Further objects and advantages will ap pear in the following description, it being understood that various changes in form, proportions and minor details of construction may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims.

For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure l is a perspective view 'of a bag holder constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same; Fig. 3 is a top plan view partly in section; Fig. 4 is a similar View, showing the bag supporting frame contracted to permit the attachment of a bag.

' Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

The improved bag holder forming the subject matter of the present invention comprises an arched suspension frame or hanger 5, preferably formed of spring metal and adapted to engage a nail, hook or similar fastening device 6 driven into a support 7 for the purpose of retaining the holder in position to receive a bag. Disposed at substantially right angles to the suspension frame 5, is a U-shaped yoke or frame 8 also preferably formed of spring metal and having its opposite ends welded or otherwise rigidly secured to the adjacent ends of the hanger 5, as shown, there being inclined braces 9 forming a connection between the frames 5 and 8 for the purpose of reinforcing the latter and holding said frames rigidly in assembled position.

Extending inwardly from the inner walls of the bag suspension frame 5 at the open end thereof, are loops or eyes 10 between which are arranged a pair of sliding plates 11 for the purpose of contracting the frame 8 to facilitate the attachment of the bag or sack l2 thereto. The outer ends of the plates 11 are provided with perforations for the reception of the adjacent eyes 10, while the inner ends thereof overlap and are provided with terminal keepers 13 which form guides for the plates and serve to maintain said guides in parallel relation with each other. The keepers 13 are each preferably formed of a single piece of metal bent upon itself to produce a loop, said keepers being rigidly secured to the adjacent plates 11, and by contact with each other serving to limit the expansible movement of the bag supporting frame.

Secured to the outer face of one of the plates 11, is an eye 14 on which is pivotally mounted a locking device 15, preferably in the form of a hook, the bill of which is adapted to enter registering openings 16 formed in the plates 11 for the purpose of holding the bag supporting frame in contracted position when placing a bag thereon.

In operation, the inner ends of the frame 8 are pressed together until the openings 16 register, after which the bill of the hook 15 is inserted in said registering openings, thus holding the frame 8 in contracted position. The bag 12 is then placed on the frame 8 with the exterior wall of said frame bearing against the interior wall of the sack at the mouth thereof, after which the locking member or hook 15 is released, the inherent resilient properties of the frame 8 serving to expand the frame and cause the latter to grip the bag beneath the hem thereof so as to hold the mouth of the bag in open position during the filling operation. After the bag has been filled, the frame 8 is again contracted and held in said position by means of the hook 15 so as to permit the ready detachment of the filled bag from the holder.

The bag holders may be made in different sizes and shapes and any number of openings may be formed in the sliding plates for engagement with the hook, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

l. A bag holder including rigidly united resilient frames disposed at substantially right angles to each other and having their inner ends open and their outer ends closed, one of said frames constituting a hanger and the other a support for a bag, overlapping plates pivotally connected with one of the frames and provided with openings adapted to register with each other, and a locking device carried by one of the plates and adapted to enter the openings for holding the bag supporting frame in contracted position. 7

2. A bag holder including rigidly united resilient frames disposed at an angle to each other, one of said frames constituting a hanger and the other a support for a bag, eyes extending inwardly from one of the frames, plates connected with said eyes and having their inner ends overlapped and pro vided with registering openings and a hook carried by one of said plates and adapted to enter the openings for holding the bag supporting frame in contracted position.
