To all whom tt may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMES HULBERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ashtabula, in the county 0I' Ashtabula and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and usel'ul Improvements in Eng-Holders, oi which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

My invention relates to improvements in bag or sack holders and consists in the novel features oi' construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed. Y

The object oi the invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive and practical device of this character which may be readily hung upon a wall or other support7 adjusted for holding bags oi different sizes and when not in use swung up against the wall or support so as to be out of the way.

The above and other objects which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, are accomplished by the improved construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure I is a perspective view oi my improved bag holder; and Fig. 2 is a vertical section, showing the bag supporting ring in its normal horizontal position in full lines and in its elevated position in dotted lines.

The bag or sack holder comprises a supporting plate I preferably oi rectangular i'orm and flat so that it may be engaged with a wall or other flat support. This plate may be secured to the wall in any suitable manner, but I preferably provide in it adjacent to its top, an aperture 2 so that it may be readily hung upon a nail or the like. Hingedly mounted upon the central portion oi the plate l is a ring or loop 3 adapted to engage the mouth o a bag or sack and hold the same open. This ring is preferably composed ol a flat band of resilient metal bent into circular form and having its central portion connected by a hinge 4 to the plate l and its two ends adjustably connected by a screw 5 or its equivalent. The hinge 4, as more clearly shown in Fig. 2, is of the usual form and has one oi its members or leaves 4/ riveted or otherwise secured to the plate l and its other member' or leaf 4'2 similarly secured to the ring or band 3. The clamping screw 5 has an enlarged head or inger piece 6 upon one of its ends and its other end which is threaded passes through a longitudinally eX- tending slot '7 formed in one end S of the band or ring 3 and into a threaded aperture 9 provided in an enlargement I() upon the other end Il of said band or ring, as clearly shown in Figi 2. The provision oi the longitudinal slot 7 enables the ends 8, ll oi the band or ring to be slid longitudinally upon each other so that the latter may be adjusted in size to enter the mouth of a bag oi almost any size. After said ends are adjusted they are irmlyclamped together by the screw 5, as will be readily understood. Upon the ring or band 3, and preferably upon its outer surface, are arranged a plurality oi upturned hooks I2 with which the bag or sack maybe readily engaged. The provision oi the hinge 4 and th'e mounting of it,as illustrated prevents the ring 3 from dropping below a horizontal plane and at the same time permits it to be swung upwardly to a vertical position so that it will be out o the way. Any suitable means may be provided for retaining the band in its elevated position against the wall or other support on which the plate l is mounted, but as illustrated I have provided a gravity catch 13 which has its upper end pivoted at I4 upon the plate l and its lower end formed with a hook oi` projection I5 which will catch over the lower edge of the ring or band 3 when the latter is swung to its vertical position, as clearly shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2.

From the foregoing it will be seen that the device is exceedingly convenient in use and at the same time strong and durable. It may be readily applied to a hook or nail upon a wall or other support and when not in use may be quickly folded or swung to a position in which it will occupy but little space. By means o the screw 5 it may be readily adjusted for receiving bags or the like of different sizes.

Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The herein described bag holder comprising a flat supporting and attaching plate formed adjacent to its top with an aperture to receive a suspending element, a bag supporting band or ring formed ofiresilient metal and having at one end a longitudinally extending slot and at its other end an integral enlargement formed with a threaded aperture, a clamping screw having a head engaged with the inner iace of the slotted end of said band, the threaded end of said screw being passed through said slot and engaged with the threaded aperture in the other end of the band, bag supporting hooks projecting from, the outer face of said band, a leaf hinge connecting said hand to said plate7 apertured'ears upon said plate above the hinge, and a supporting hook pivoted betweenv said ears and having its bent lower end adapted to engage the bottom edge of said band to support the latter in an elevated or vertical position, substantially as described.
