CHAIR-TRAY.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GUYER D. THOMAS, a citizen of the United States, residing at 704 South 4th street, North Yakima, in the county of Yakima and State of Washington,

have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chair-Trays; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to an improved chair tray, and the primary object of the invention is the provision of a tray for retaining food, which tray is for use upon infants high chairs and to provide a tray which is sanitairy, and may be, easily cleaned, presenting no cracks or crevices for the retaining of particles of food.

A more specific object of this invention is the provision of a flat board, which is attached to the high chair and has springretaining clamps secured thereto for securely attaching a pan to the upper surface of the board for forming a food-retaining tray, which will prevent the food being spilled from the tray and will also'provide a retaining tray which may be easily removed and washed for sanitary purposes, when it is so desired. 7

In describing the invention in detail reference will be had in the accompanying drawings wherein like characters designate like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a detail perspective view of the improved chair tray,

Fig. 2 is a fragmentary cross-sectional view through the improved tray showing the means for securely holding the pan upon the board in section.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numerals 1 and 2 designate bars which are secured to the handles of an ordinary type of high chair (not shown), which bars have secured to the outer terminal ends and abutting their upper sides a, board or plate 3. The board or plate 3 is constructed of a single sheet of material, so that no cracks or crevices will be provided for the retention of particles of food. The upper surface of the board 3 is perfectly smooth,

and it is provided for the retaining of a ference of the same. The upstanding sides form means for preventing the spilling of various food stuflis from the tray upon the table, or the child, or the like.

The board 3 has hingedly connected thereto spring retaining clips 10. The spring retaining clips 10 are constructed of retaining body portions 11, which body portions have transversely projecting ears 12. The ears 12 are pivotally or hingedly connected to the under surface of the board 3 in any suitable manner. The body portion 11 of the spring retaining clip 10 is hollow and it has slidably mounted therein a piston'l3 which projects out of the upper end ofthe body portion 11 and has its upper terminal end broadened and bent upon itself as is shown at 14, so as to provide a hook forincasing the'upper marginal edge of the sides of the pan or tray 4. A spiral spring 15 is mounted within the hollow body portion 11, and it tends to draw or pull the piston 13 downwardly within the hollow body portion 11, securely holding the clamping end 14 in firm and binding engagement with the upper marginal edges of the tray 4, thereby securely holding the tray upon the board 3.

When it is desired to wash the pan or tray 4, the same may be quickly and easily removed from the board 3 by the upward movement of the hooked gripping end 14.

In reducing the invention to practice cer tain minor features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may necessitate alterations to which the patentee is entitled provided such alterations are comprehended within the scope of what is claimed.
