To ail whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, CHARLES C. SKELTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Butler, in the county of Dekalb and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sack-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in sack holders and has for its object to provide a device of this character which will be valuable in use in flour mills, grain elevators, feed stores and especially wholesale houses. It can be folded up so as to occupy a very small space and can be adjusted to any size of sack.

Another object is to provide a device of this character which will possess great advantages in points of efliciency and durability, is inexpensive of manufacture and at the same time is simple in operation and construction.

'With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction, the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the holder set up ready for use; Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the holder folded; and Fig. 3 is a sectional View on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.

Referring more particularly to the drawings 1 indicates the base having an adjustable supporting standard 2 pivotally 1nounted on one side thereof as indicated at 3. A hopper 4 is pivotally mounted on the upper end of said standard by means of a yoke strap 5 secured to the lower end of the hopper, said strap having its ends brought together and bent out at right angles as inclicated at 6 and the upper end of the supporting standard being disposed between the ends of said yoke and having a pivot bolt 7 secured therein. A bolt 8 is horizontally disposed through an opening in the standard near the upper end thereof and a nut 9 threaded on one end of said bolt to hold the same in place, the other end of said bolt being enlarged and bent to form a hook 10.

A support 12 is provided, which comprises the standards 13 pivotally secured to the ends of the base near the side opposite the standard 2. A U-shaped tubular mem- Specification of Letters Patent.

her 1 1 having its lower ends telescoping over said standards and adjustably mounted thereon by means of the pins 15, disposed in the lower end of the U-shaped member and passing through the openings 16 in the standards 13. These openings 16 are arranged up and down the standards so that the support can be adjusted to any desired height. The supporting standard 2 comprises a standard rod 17 having a plu rality of openings 18 therein and a tubular member 19 having a pin 20 disposed in the lower end and adapted to be inserted in the openings 18.

Formed integral with the cross bar 21 of the U-shaped member 141 are the studs 22 adapted to be disposed upon opposite sides of the hook 10 when the holder is set up, and secured to the inner side of the hopper is a plate 23 substantially rectangular in form and having the downwardly projecting lugs 24: formed thereon and disposed between the hook 10 and the studs 22 to hold the cross bar 21 securely in the hook 10 and hold the hopper in an upright position.

Secured on the inside of the hopper at the lower edge thereof are the engaging hooks 25, which engage in the side of the sacks at the upper end thereof, said hooks being held rigidly in place by the bolts 26. The hoo s are secured to the hopper at each end thereof.

In Fig. 2 the holder is shown folded up, and to set it up ready for use the base 1 is first laid flat on the floor, the bar 21 of the support 12 is then disposed in the hook 10 secured to the standard 2 and the hopper is brought down into position so that the lugs 24: will be disposed between the lugs 22 on the bar 21 and the hook 10 to hold the hopper in a horizontal position, the sacks can be readily secured on the hooks 25 and quickly filled one after the other. To fold the holder up the operation is reversed and it is ready to be placed away.

While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carrying my invention into practice without sacrificing any of the essential features or departing from the scope thereof.

Having thus described my invention I claim:

1. In a device of the character described,

the combination of a base, an adjustable standard pivotally secured to one side thereof, a hopper pivotally mounted on the upper end thereof, a hook secured in said standard near the upper end thereof, a U-shaped support having its upper end adapted to be placed in said hook, and means secured to the hopper for keeping the upper end of the support in the hook and hold the hopper in a horizontal position.

2. In a device of the character described, the combination of an adjustable standard pivotally secured to one side thereof, a hopper pivotally mounted on the upper end thereof, a hook secured in said standard near the upper end thereof, an adjustable U-shaped support pivotally secured to said base, having its upper end horizontally adapted to be placed in said hook, and means secured to the hopper for keeping the upper end of the support in the hook and hold the hopper in a horizontal position.

3. In a device of the character described, the combination of a base, an adjustable standard pivotally secured to one side thereof, a hopper pivotally mounted on the upper end thereof, a hook secured in said standard near the upper end thereof, an adjustable U-shaped support pivotally secured to said base, having its upper end horizontally adapted to be placed in said hooks, studs formed on the upper end of said support and disposed on each side of said hook, a plate secured to the inside of the hopper at one side thereof, lugs formed on the lower edge of said plate and disposed between the studs on said support and said hook to rigidly hold the hopper in a horizontal position.
