*UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM 0. noon, on QUINCY, ILLINOIS.
SHOW-CARD HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 259,216, dated June 6, 1882. 7
Application filed March 11, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM 0. R001), of Quincy, in the county of Adams and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Show-Gard Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact desfiiption.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved device for holding price or show cards.
The invention consists in 'a card-holding frame provided 011 its rear side with a loop or socket for receiving the upper end. of a standard secured in a base, with hooks for holding the plate or frame in an inclined position, and for hanging the same, with a pin for securing the frame or plates on articles, and with a ring for hanging or suspending the frame.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification,
in which similar letters of reference indicate.
corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved show-card holder, showing it held on the top of a rod. Fig. 2 is a rear perspective view of the same, showing it detached from the rod.
A plate or frame, A, made of wood, metal,
socket, D, either squared or cylindrical, for
receiving the upper end of a rod or standard, E, of wood or metal. The lower end of this rod or standard E fits in an aperture in the top ofa base or block, F, made of wood or metal and having any desired shape. A ring or loop, G, is hinged or otherwise held to swing or fold on the rear surface of the frame or plate A, near the upper edge of the same.
Two hooks, H,having their lower ends bent rectangularly, are held to swing in loops J on the rear surface of the plate or frame A, near the ends of the same, or these hooks H can be hinged or pivoted to the rear of the plate A in any other suitable manner. A pin, K, is attached to the rear of the plate or frame A, at or near the middle of the same, and this pin projects downward.
The frame A is preferably made square or oblong, and can be made any desired suitable size. The card 0 can be made of card-board, sheet metal, thin wood strips, or other suitable material.
The frame-plate A can be held on the top of the rod E, as shown in Fig.1, or'it can rest on the objects and be held in an inclined position by the hooks H, as shown in Fig. 2. If desired,-the hooks H H can be turned upward and the plate can be suspended by means of thehooks,'as indicated in dottedlinesin Fig.2.
The plate or frameA can be suspended from a hook or nail by means of the loop or ring G.
The pin K can be passed into the articles to be marked by the card in the frame A,and the card can thus be held on this article by means of the pin.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure byLettersPatent- 1. The combination, with the card-holding frame or plate A, provided with grooved flanges B, of the loop or socket-D, the standard E, and thebase F, substantially as herein shown and described, for the purpose set forth,
2. The combination, with the card-holding plate or frame A, of the loop or socket D, and
the pivoted bent hooks H H, substantially as,
herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination, with the card holding frame A, of the loop or socket D, the pivoted hooks H, and the pin K, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
4. The combination, with the card-holding frame A, of the loop or socket D, the pivoted hooks H, the pin K, and the ring G, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
WILLIAM CAREY ROOD.
