To all whom it may concern:
lie it known that I, DELL E. MILLARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Galesburg, in the county of Neosho and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Bag-Holders and eighing-Scales; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in combined sack holders and weighing scales.
One object of the invention is to provide a combined. bag holder and weighing scale which will be simple, strong, durable and inexpensive in construction efficient and reliable in operation and which may be readily moved from place to place thus adapting the same for use in mills or granaries, or in the field.
Another object is to provide a device of this character having adjustable bag engaging members whereby bags of different height may be readily supported.
Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings :F igure 1 is a side view of my improved bag holder and weighing scale; Fig. 2 is a front View of the same partly in section; Fig. 3 is a top plan view; Fig. f is a horizontal sectional View on the line as of Fig. 1; Fig. 5 is a rear perspective view of the supporting frame; Fig. 6 is a similar view of the bag receiving and weighing frame.
In this embodiment of the invention 1 provide a supporting frame which may be formed of any suitable material but which is preferably constructed of strap iron and comprises a circular base or ring 1 having riveted or otherwise secured thereto short supporting legs or feet 2. To the opposite sides of the base ring 1 are riveted or otherwise secured the lower ends of side standards 3, while to the ring 1 at the rear side thereof and midway between the standards 8 is secured a rear standard t. The standards 3 and 4 are connected together at their upper ends by a semi-circular bar 5 thus forming a firm frame for the bag receiving and weighing mechanism.
The bag receiving and weighing mechanism comprises a base plate 6 to which at diametrically opposite points near its side edges are secured, the lower ends of tubular outer members 7 of telescoping bag holding bars, the upper, inner members 8 of which are slidably engaged therewith and are adapted to be raised and lowered and se cured in their adjusted positions by set screws 9 whereby bags of different lengths may be held up in an open position. The
upper ends of the members 8 of the'bars are turned downwardly and have secured thereto segmental bag engaging hangers 10 over which the mouth of the bag is stretched and held in an open position.
On the rear edge of the base plate is securedan upwardly extending guide bar or post 11 which is connected at its upper end to the upper ends of the tubular outer members 7 of the bag holding bars by a semicircular bar or rod 12 whereby said bars are braced. At diametrically opposite points on the edges of the plate 6 and adjacent to the telescoping supporting bars are bearing studs or trunnions 13 which are pivotally engaged with the ends of the semi-circular or bail-shaped weighing or balancing frame 14 on which near its opposite ends and a short distance from the pivotal connection of the base plate 6 are arranged bearing studs or trunnions 15 which are pivotally engaged with bearing passages 16 formed in the side standards adjacent to their connection with the ring 1.
0n the weighing frame 1a midway between its ends is arranged a rearwardly projecting scale beam 17 which projects and works through a slot 18 formed in the rear standard 4. On the beam 17 is slidably mounted a balancing weight 19 said weight being preferably provided with a set screw 20 to hold the same in its adjusted positions on the beam.
On the rear standard 4 near its upper end is arranged a pair of bearing lugs 21 in which are revolubly mounted a pair of grooved guide rollers 22 between which the guide bar or post 11 is adapted to work and whereby the upper portion of the weighing mechanism is guided and held in position.
By means of a bag holding and supporting mechanism as herein shown and described it will be seen that bags of different sizes may be supported and held in posit-ion for filling and the contents thereof weighed without removing the bags from the holder.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of COllSi-lLlCtlOll may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advan tages of this invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. In a bag holding and weighing mechanism a supporting frame comprising a base ring and standards supported thereon, a bag receiving frame comprising a base plate and bag holding bars supported hereon, said bag receiving frame being movable vertically on the supporting frame, and a weighing beam pivotally connected to the base ring and to the base plate and projecting radially through one of the standards.
2. A combined bag holding and weighing mechanism comprising supporting frame, said frame comprising a base ring having secured thereto a series of supporting feet, supporting standards secured to said ring, means to connectsaid standaros together at their upper ends, a bag receiving and weighing frame comprising a base plate, adjust-- able bag holding bars secured at their lower ends to said plate, a guide bar also connected at its lower end to said plate, means to connect the upper ends of said. bars together, and a pivotally mounted scale beam operatively connected to said bag receiving frame.
3. A combined bag holding and weighing mechanism comprising a supporting frame, a pair of guide rollers arranged in said frame, a weighing mechanism comprising a bail shaped frame pivotally mounted in said supporting frame, a scale beam secured to said bail shaped frame, a weight slidably mounted on said scale beam, a bag receiving frame comprising a base plate pivotally mounted in the outer ends of said bail shaped weighing frame, bag supporting bars secured to said base plate, said bars being formed in telescoping sections, bag engaging members arranged on the upper ends of the inner sections of said bars, set screws to hold said inner sections in their adjusted positions, and a guide bar secured to said base plate and having a sliding engagement with said guide rollers, said guide bar being connected to the upper ends of the outer members of said telescoping bars.
