PATENT JOSEPH O. MAHAFFEY, OF TINGLEY, IOYVA.
HAM E-TUG HOOK,
$PEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 545,299, dated August 27, 1895.
Application filed April 26, 1895, Serial No. 547,215. (No model.)
To aZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Josnrn 0. MAHAFFEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Tingley, in the county of Ringgold and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hame-Tug Hooks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to harness attachments; and its object is to provide an improved hook for connecting the traces or tugs to the hames which shall be strong and durable in use, economical in manufacture, and elficient in operation. a
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view of a portion of a hame and a trace or tug connected together by my improved hook. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the hook detached. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the same.
In the said drawings the reference-numeral 1 designates one of the curved bars of the hame, which may be of any ordinary or suitable construction, provided with a staple 2, as usual.
The numeral 3 designates the heme-tug, which may also be of any ordinary construction.
The numeral 4 designates the hook, consisting of a rectangular metal plate having its ends bent or turned over inwardly, forming curved arms 5, with which engage rings or loops 6, secured, respectively, to the staples of the hame-bars and the traces or tugs. As seen more clearly in Fig, 3, these curved or bent arms are recessed or cut away at their ends, forming Ways for the correspondinglycut-away ends of a rectangular plate '7, which is secured to the plate 4 by means of ascrewbolt 8, the said ends overlapping each other. A filling or packing 9.0f leather is interposed between the said plates 4 and 7.
I Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim isl As an improved article a hame tug hook comprising the plate having its ends bent or curved and cut-away or recessed, the plate having correspondingly cut-away ends, the
