To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J AcoB ZIEGLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Coffeyville, in the county of Montgomery and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Haine-Tug and Trace-Buckle, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to improvements in haine tug and trace buckles.

The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of hame tug and trace buckles, and to provide a simple and comparatively inexpensive buckle of this character, adapted to hold in lace the trace, s in the usual manner, and capable of instant adjustment along the trace and the hame tug to arrange the harness to suit large and small horses.

l/Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described., illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended; 1t being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction, within the scope of the claims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

The hame tug and trace buckle, which is slidable along the trace 1 and adjustably engages the hame tug 2, is composed of upper and lower sides 3, front and rear end bars 4 and 5, and an intermediate connecting bar 6, forming a vertical loop. The upper and lower sides 3 are tapered to form central prog portions, which are connected with the ends of the cross bar 6. The ends of the cross bar are angularly bent to form a loop. The upper and lower side bars are also equipped with horizontally arranged longitudinally disposed loops 7 and 8 for the attachment of the back and belly bands (not shown) in the usual manner.

The trace 1, which extends through the buckle, is passed beneath the front end bar 4 and over the rear end bar 5, and the rear end of the hame extends through the vertical loop being passed over the front end bar 4, which is interposed between the hame tug and the trace, as clearly illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing. The hame tug isprovided at intervals with holes 9 and is engaged by a projecting stud 10, formed integral with and extending downwardly from the front end bar 4 at a point intermediate of the ends thereof. The rear end of the hame tug projects rearwardly beyond the vertical bar 6, which retains the hame tug in engagement with the stud 10. The hame tug is readily disengaged from the stud to permit the buckle to slide along the trace to move the back band and belly band forwardly or rearwardly to arrange the same in proper position to suit the animal to which the harness is to be applied.

The front end of the trace is adjustably connected with the front portion of the hame tug by means of a front buckle 11, adapted to lighten and shorten the trace in the usual manner. As the front buckle may be of any preferred construction and does not constitute a portion of the resent invention, a detail description and il ustration is deemed unnecessary.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is z* 1.. The combination with a trace, and a hame tug provided at intervals with holes, of a buckle provided with loops to receive the back and belly bands of a harness and cornposed of sides, front and rear end bars and an intermediate vertical loop connecting the sides near the center of the buckle, said buckle receiving the trace and the hame tug, and the front end bar being interposed between the same and provided with a proj ecte ing stud engaging one of the holes of the hame tug and retained in such engagement by the vertical loop.
