UNITED STATES JEFFERSON 0. ADAMS, OF RAYNE, LOUISIANA.
HARNESS.
Application led May 25, 1925.
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEFFERSON O. ADAMS,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Rayne, in the parish of-Acadia and State of Louisiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Harness, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention pertains to harness; and it contemplates the provision of durable and dependable couplings and arrangements of saddle, breast strap, trace strap and ,shaft connections.
Other objects and advantageous character istics will be fully understood from the following description and claim together with the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my novel harness as arranged on a horse.
Figure 2 is` al view partly in section of harness saddle.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the saddle. Figure 1 isa view taken in the plane indicated by line 2,-2 of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 5 is a side elevation of a portion of harness showing the connections to the breast strap and trace as well as the connection of the belly strap and saddle.
Figure 6 is an edge elevation of Figure 5.
Figure 7 is a sectional view taken in the plane indicated by line 7 7 of Figure 5 looking in the direct-ion of the arrows.
Similar numerals of refe-rence designate corresponding parts in all the views of the drawings.
My novel harness saddle is designated by 1 having a pad 2 of felt or other material and secured by1 means of stitching 3 to the pad 2 is a covering et while studs 5 of rein guides 6 pass through and are riveted to the covering. The studs 5 also bear on a plate 7 that is also riveted indicated by 8 to the covering 4L and said plate 7 is provided with slots 9 that act as guides for the depending strap 10. This strap 10 extends down both sides of the saddle and is provided with a loop ring connection 11 that is provided on the trace 12. This trace 12 is further provided at the forward end with a buckle 13 adapted to engage a breast strap Serial No. 32,674.
14C and the trace 12 is also provided with a ring 15 and loops 16. The connection 11 is secured to a short strap 17 that engages a ring 18 that in turn connects with the belly strap 19.
Extending from the saddle is the strap 20 and depending from this strap 2O are straps 21 and 22 that engage the breeching strap 23.
Secured to the strap 21 is a ring 24: that engages the short strap 25 that in turn extends to and is connected with the ring 18 as illustrated.
The invention is extremely simple in construction and the saddle con'iprised of but a few elements and these of such a nature that weight assured extreme comfort to the draft animal.
At the same time the connection to the saddle of the trace and belly straps is extremely simple and hence inexpensive to produce.
The breast strap moreover is provided with and requires no hold-up strap as it is retained in proper position by the trace.
Manifestly the trace and breast strap are held up by the depending strap 10.
The device illustrated and described constitutes my novel device but I do not care to limit myself toV the exact arrangement of elements shown because in the further practice of the invention such changes or modications may be made as fairly fall Vwithin the scope ofthe appended claim.
`Having described my invention what I claim and de'sire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
In a harness, the combination of a saddle, a strap having its ends depending from the saddle, traces having connections secured to the depending ends of said strap, short straps secured to said connections and carrying rings, a belly strap secured to said rings, a breast strap secured to the tmward ends of said traces, a breeching strap, and means connecting said breeching strap with the ringsv to which the belly strap are attached.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
JEFFERSON O. ADAMS.
