SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 353,879, dated December '7, 1886.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM OLEWINE, of Hazleton, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved'Harness, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention consists, principally, ofa harness having two separated back-straps leading from the hames directly back to the hipstraps, so there will be no tendency of updraft upon the harness and collar, as with the ordinary harness, which is liable to choke the horse.

The invention also consists in the combination, with the two separated back-straps, of a ring at the rump, to which the hip-straps and crupper are attached.

Reference is to be had to-the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improvements in harness, and Fig. 2 is a detailed plan view of the rump-ring, its guard, and connected straps.

A A represent the two back-straps, connected at their forward ends to the hame-rings B B, to which the traces are attached. These straps do not pass along thespineof the horse,

but are separated and are held apart by loops by the loop G, and the hipstraps H H and' crupper J are attached to the ring E, as shown clearly in the drawings.

With this arrangement of back-strap there is no pulling or working up of the collar,- as with a single back-strap, and hence no danger of choking the horse.

Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a harness, the double back-straps A, attached to the hames and to the rump-ring and spaced by attachments to the back-band, substantially as described.

2. The back-straps A A, attached to the haines and to the rump-ring E, in combination with the hip-strap H and crupper J, attached to said ring, substantially as described.
