Description

E. S. LAFPERTY. Fastening for Horse-Collar.
No. 205,654. I Patented July 2,1878.
[N VENTOR A T T URN/Z Y 62W cw y iiim N.PETFBS, FHOTQJJTHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON n c UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ERASTUS S. LAFFERTY, OF SALTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN FASTENINGS FOR HORSE-COLLARS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 205,654, dated July 2, 1878; application filed May 27, 1578.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERASTUS S. LAFFERTY, of Saltsburg, Indiana county, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Horse-Collar Fastenings, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawing.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
The object of the present invention is to effect an improvement on my patent on horsecollar fastening, No. I7 9,573, dated the 4th day of July, A. D. 1876.
In the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of my application, Figure 1 is a View of a portion of a horse-collar with my patent fastener shown, and Fig. 2 is a detached or end View of the fastener, and Fig. 3 is a top.
view of the fastener.
In the drawing, A A represent sections of a horse-collar. B is a buckle or link attach ed to themetallic piece I). This buckle is shown to be double, and may be made single or double, to suit the top of the collar, making it narrower or wider, as the case may be; or it may have more than one extra buckle for the same purpose.
U is a straight piece of malleable iron, in size about three inches long and a fourth of an inch wide and one-eighth thick, rounded off on one side. 0 c are arms to the piece 0, placed about at right angles with the piece 0.
These arms are perforated to receive the lever D, and this latter is secured to these arms 0 c by rivets or pins. Near the end of the piece 0 are also rivet-holes, to secure the sameto the collar. The piece 0 is secured by either sewing it to the collar or riveting. In the drawing it will be observed that both methods offastenin g are shown. 1
When secured to thecollar, the operation of my improvement is aboutas described 'in my former patent before referred to.
In order to properly adjust the collar to suit the size of the horses neck, I use two or more links, as seen in the drawing. By use of these extra links it will readily be seen that the collar can be made wider, or may be contracted at will.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is
In a horse-collar fastening, the combination, with the collar A, of the piece 0, having the arms a c, with perforations to receive the lever D, the lever D, and the links, substantially as described and shown.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention 1 have set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
I ERASTUS S. LAFFERTY.
Witnesses:
