SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 783,201, dated February 21, 1905.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ALFRED HERBELIN,2L citizen of the United States, residing at Waco, in the county of McLennan and State of Texas, h ave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hame Attachments, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a hame and trace or tug connector; and the object is to provide a simple and durable trace or tug connector which is easily detachable and which will afford a wide range of adjustment. whereby the trace-loop or tug connecting device may be held at any suitable adjustment.

Other objects and advantages will be'fully explained in the following description, and the invention will be more particularly pointed out in the claims.

Reference is had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application and specification.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the attachment applied to a hame,which is broken away. Fig. 2 is a cross-section along the line a m of Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the attachment. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the loggerhead or loop or device to which the trace or tug is attached.

Similar characters of reference are used to indicate the same parts throughout the several views.

This invention consists of a tubular attachment to be secured to the hame, a spring-plate cooperating with the tubular attachment, and a trace-loop or tug connector or device for connecting the trace or tug to the hame.

The tube 1 is provided with a flat side or base 2, adapted to lie snugly on the hame, and has suitable extending flanges 3 and 4, by which the attachment will be strongly braced on the hame, and the front flange 1 is made to receive a spring-plate 5. The spring-plate 5 may be riveted to the flange 4 of the attachment by rivets 6. The tube 1 may be attached to the hame by means of suitable bolts 7 and 8. The tube 1 has a plurality of slots 9 in the outer part. The slots 9 are just large enough at the rear and longer portions to receive the shanks 10 of the loppor connector 11'. The

loggerhead loop or connector is attached to the tube 1 by means of the slots in the tube and by draft-lugs 12, formed on the ends of the shanks 10. The slots in the tube 1 are enlarged at 13 on the front part thereof to receive the draft-lugs 12. The draft-lugs 12 are inserted in the tube at the larger portions 13 of the slots. Means are provided for preventing the displacement of the draft-lugs 12 from the tube 1. A spring-plate 5 is attached to the front part of the tube by riveting or otherwise attaching the plate 5 to the flange 1 of the attachment. a plurality of fingers 1 1, which project through the wider portions of the slots at 13 of the tube within the tube and stand normally in or relatively in the position shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. It will be seen that the springflngers 14: stand over or cover a portion of the draft-lugs 12 and substantially close the wider portions of the slots in, the tube 1. In all ordinary or normal conditions the fingers 1 1 will prevent the displacement of the draftlugs 12. The trace or tug connector is thus held safely in place.

The connector is easily and readily detachable. The trace or tug connector can be easily detached by swinging the outer or loop part forward substantially to the position shown by dotted outline in Fig. 2 and then pressing down on the loop. The connector may be put in place in the same manner.

The portions of the tube 1 which sustain the draft are left stronger than'the front portions.

Various changes may be made in the sizes, shapes, and proportions of the various parts without departing from my invention.

Having fully described my invention, What 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The combination of a tubular attachment for hames, a trace or tug connecting device provided with draft-lugs inserted in said tube, and a spring-plate having fingers projecting in said tube to prevent the displacement of said draft-lugs.
