Description

.(NOMOM) o. H. SGHAEPFBR.
BOX LID SUPPORT.
No. 480,832. Patented Aug. 16, 1892.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHRISTIAN H. SCHAEFFER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
BOX-LID SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 480,832, dated August 16, 1892.
Application tiled April 18, 1892.V Serial No. 429,671. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN H. SCHARF- FER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in B0X -Lid Supports; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to a support for holding or supporting the hinged lid or cover of a cigar or other like box in an open condition, so as to eX pose the contents of the same to view, the objects of the present improvement being to provide a simple, cheap, and durable supporting device for holding and supporting the cover in an open and angular position and which is capable of ready and easy application and adapted to not only support and strengthen the cover-hinge, but at the same time constitutea mark-card to indicate the price of the boxcontents. I attain such objects by the construction and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view illustrating the present invention in position on a cigarboX; Fig. 2, a perspective view of the coversupport detached, and Fig. 3 a sectional elevation illustrating the support in use.
Similar numerals of reference indicate like parts in the diierent views.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents the body, and 2 the hinged cover, of a cigar or other like box.
The present cover-support consists of a body portion bent at or near the middle to form the two portions 3 and 4, the upper portion 3 being formed with a bent spring-finger 5, that engages the box-cover 2, as shown, and which maybe made of some size so as to constitute a price card or indicator, while the lower portion is left plain or marginally beaded, so as to rest against the back of the box-body l, so as to support the cover in its open condition, as clearly illustrated in Figs. l and 3.
In the manufacture of my improved coversupport the same may be made of sheet metal, more especially where the feature of a priceindicator is desired. It may, however', be formed of wire, in which case the wire will be bent into a skeleton form approximating the outline of the plate formation illustrated in the drawings.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The box-cover support consisting of an upper portion 3, provided with a clip 5 for eugaging the box-cover, and a lower portion 4, adapted to rest against the back of the boxbody, the two portions 3 and 4 being bent at an angle to each other, substantially as herein described.
In testimony whereof witness my hand this 14th day of April, 1892.
CHRISTIAN H. SCHAEFFER.
In presence of- RORERT BURNS, GEO. H. ARTHUR.
