Description

(No Model.) V
T. P. W..SGHM-IDT. PAPER BOX.
Patented Mar. 26., 1895."
me nanas PEER: co mi mam wAsmNsroN, n4 a UNITED STATES THEODORE F. W. SCHMIDT, OF DAYTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR PAPER NOVELTY COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
PATENT OFFICE.
TO THE DAYTON PAPER BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 536,544, dated March 26, 1895.
Application led March 22. 1894.
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, THEoDoRE F. W. SCHMIDT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a trough bottom delivery box, made of paper, adapted to be folded or knocked down for shipping purposes, and readily put together for use3 The various features of my invention are fully set forth in the description of the accompanying drawings making a part of this specification, in which?h Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved box in position for use. Fig. 2 isa central vertical section of Fig. 1, showing a match box and case inclosed therein. Fig. 3 is a plan View otv therblank from which the box is made.
In the blank, 1 represents the back'of the box; 2, the front face; 3, 4, the end pieces provided with feet a, a, forming the ends of the tray. y i
5 represents the bottom of the tray and box, and 6 represents the front side of the tray.
b represents an oblong slot forsuspending the box. It is made Wider at the bottom to allow it to go over the head of a nail and then drop down so that the nail willrest in the narrow portion.
c represents an ear for tacking the box at the base to hold it iirmly in position against the wall, and is formed by cutting the circular slot c. f
The box is constructed as follows: The blank is cut by a die and scored as shown by dotted lines. The flap 7 is glued to the back l on the margin 8. The front of thetray is provided with tenons t which enter the slits e.
v These slits are preferably formed by an angular cut forming a tongue g, so that after the tenons are inserted in the vertical line of the slits said tongues can be pressed against the tenons and hold them in position by frictional engagement. The semi-circular ears Serial No. 504,632. (No model.)
formed on the top of the box, and the projec-l tions 9 at the bottom are merely ornamental. 5o
C represents an ordinary match box with sliding cover B, which are inserted in the chute A, the box C being pressed down to the bottom while the slide B remains elevated so as to leave the opening D to the tray E, through which matches will fall by gravity as others are removed from the tray; or, the matches may be placed within the chute A without the ordinary match box, and they will fall by gravity into the tray. The box 6o may, of course, be used to hold other similar articles.
I-Iavingdescribed 'myinventiom what l claim is 4 1. A knock-down box made in a single piece and consisting of a back l, front 2, side walls 3 and 4 attached to the opposite sides of the front 2 and provided at their lower edges with slotted extensions a, a, and the bottom 5 provided with an upturned front portion 6 hav- 7o ing tongues t, t projecting through the slotted extensions a, a, and forming at one side of the box an open tray bottom, substantially as described.
2. A knock-down box made in a single piece and consisting of a back 1, front,2,side Walls 3 and 4 attached to the opposite sides of the front 2 and provided at their lower edges with slotted extensions a., a, having the tongues g, and the bottom 5 provided with an upturned 8c front'portion 6V having tongues t, projecting through said slotted extensions and in frictional contact with the tongue g, and forming f at one side of the box an open tray bottom, substantially as described.
3. A knock-down box formed from a single piece out. scored and bent as shown, and provided With a slot at the top, and an ear c at the base eut from the body of the blank, substantially as described. 9o
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
