Be it known that I, ALEXANDER EDWIN REDLIOH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Candy-Box, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to advertising devices.
The object of the invention is to provide a box which shall be of novel and attractive appearance and shall possess features that will insure its retention by the owner instead of being thrown aside when empty, as-with boxes of the ordinary construction, thereby to cause the box, in addition to its ordinary function of a holder, to constitute an effect ive advertising medium which will prove of value to the person distributing it.
With the above and other objects in view, as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction and combination of parts of a candy-box, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts, Figure 1 is a view in perspective showing the box as it appears when open. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the box as it appears when closed.
The improvements of the present invention are herein exhibited as applied to a box made to represent a folding bed and, as its name indicates, is designed more particularly for use as a candy-box.
The article comprises a body 1, a cover 2, and a supplemental cover andbody-support 3. The body 1 is of ordinary rectangular shape, and the cover 2 is secured thereto at one side. The body is combined with the supplemental cover and body-support by rivets or pins 4, thereby to permit the body to be moved down to position shown in Fig. 1, and in order to hold the body and the supplemental cover assembled when folded to the position shown in Fig. 2 there is provided a bail 5, which is pivotally connected to the outer portion of the body at its sides by rivets or pins 6, one only being shown, the bail being provided along its length with teats or bosses 7, that operate to bite into the material of the supplemental cover, and thus hold the bail against accidental separation therefrom when moved to the position shown in Fig. 2. In order to impart the req uisite rigidity to the bail, one edge is turned upon itself or beaded, as at 8. In addition to performing the function of an assembling element the bail also constitutesa rest for the body when turned outward and, in eflect, operates as legs for holding the body in horizontal position or at right angles to the sup plemental cover and body-support.
The body, cover, and supplemental cover will be made of any suitable material, preferably of pasteboard, and will be covered by a grained paper imitating wood of any desired character. By reason of the manner in which the parts are constructed and combined the article will be attractive and will be highly prized by children as a play-toy, and this fact will cause its retention by the owner, and so long as it is used the advertising matter will always be prominently dis played, whether the body be folded to the position shown in Fig. 2 or open, as shown in Fig. 1.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is-- 1. A candybox comprising a body, a cover hinged thereto, a supplemental cover pivotally connected to the body intermediate of its ends, and a bail pivoted to the body and adapted to embrace the supplemental cover to hold the body housed therein.
2. A candy-box comprising a body, a cover hinged thereto, a supplemental cover to which the body is pivotally connected, and a roughened or corrugated bail pivoted to the body and adapted to embrace the supplemental cover to hold the body housed therein.
