SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 783,089, dated February 21, 1905.

To all whom it may concern..-

Be it known that L ADOLPH WILDMANN, a citizen of Austria-Hungary, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knockdown Paper Boxes, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The object of this invention is to provide an improved knockdown pasteboard or cardboard box of the class used by tailors, clothing dealers, and others for packing clothes and other articles and for shipping the same;

and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in a box of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.

In the practice of my invention I provide a knockdown box composed of two membersa bottom portion or member and a top or cover portion or member -and these parts or members are made exactly 1n the samemanner, the

only difference being in the depth thereof, the

2 5 top portion or cover being, if desired, of less .depth than the bottom portion'of the box.

The construction shown in Figs. 8 to 13, inclusive, isexactlythe same as that shown in Figs. 1 to 6, inclusive, with the exception that the box produced is oblong and rectangular in form instead of square. In this form of construction I provide a blank (shown in Fig. 8) the general form of which is oblong and rectangular, and this blank comprises a body portion g, folding end portions h, and folding 1 i are provided with triangular end flaps i degrees. Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. Aknockdown box of the class described, said box being composed of two parts each of which is formed from a blank, said blank being rectangular in form and consisting of a rectangular body portion, folding end portions, and folding side' portions, the side portions being provided with folding end flaps and being also scored or marked at their diagonally opposite ends so as to form folding-lines and at an angle of forty-five degrees to the ends of said: side portions or to the folding flaps thereof, the body portion of the blank being also providedwith a diagonal score or folding line parallel with the last-named score or folding lines, and one of the members formed thereby being provided with a loop-shaped catch and the other with a pivoted lock adapted to engage the catch,substantiallyas shown and described.

2. Aknockdown box of the class described, said box being-composed of two parts each of which is formed from a blank,said blank being rectangular in form and consisting of a rectangular body portion, folding end portions, and

folding side portions, the side portions being provided with folding end flaps and being also scored at their diagonally opposite ends to form folding-lines at an angle of forty-five degrees to the ends of said side portions or to the folding flaps thereof, and said side portions-being also provided at the ends opposite v the first-named score or folding lines with other score or folding lines at a less angle to theend flaps'than that of the first-named score or folding lines, the rectangular body portion being also provided witha score or folding line parallel with the first-named score or folding lines of the side portions, substantially as shown and described. 7

3.- A knockdown box of the class described, said box being composed of two parts'each of which is formed from a blank,said blank being rectangular in form and consistingof a rec-' tangular body portion, folding end portions, and folding side portions, the side portions being provided with folding end flaps-and being also scored at their diagonally opposite,

ends to form folding-lines at an angle of fortyfive degrees to the ends of said side portions or to the folding flaps thereof, and said side portions being also provided at the ends opposite the first-named score or folding lines with other score or folding lines at a less angle to the end flaps than that of the first-named score or folding lines, the rectangular body portion being also provided with a score or folding line parallel with the first-named score or folding lines of the side portions, and the separate parts of the body portion thus formed being provided with looking devices to hold the box part or member in operative position, substantially as shown and described.

4:. A blank for forming box members, said blank being composed of a rectangular .body

portion and folding side and end members, the side members. being provided with folding end flaps, and being also scored at their diagonally opposite ends so as to form foldinglines at an angle of approximately forty-five degrees to the end flaps, the body portion being also scored diagonally, and the side portions being also provided .at the ends opposite the first-named score or folding lines with other score or foldingrlines and forming small degrees to the end flaps, and the separate parts of the body portion being also provided with looking devices, substantially as shown and described.
