UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL HASKES, or BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
COMBINED BED AND TRUNK. Q
To all whom it may concern: Be it known thatI, SAMUEL HasKns, a
citizen of the United States, residing at I tween the parts 12 and 13 of the bed frame Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Beds and Trunks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is the provision of a combined trunk and bed of simple and inexpensive construction, and which shall be quickly and easily operable.
Another object is the provision of a hollow trunk top in which the bed is foldable.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction and formation of parts as will be hereinafter specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of i the trunk closed and in proper condition for transportation. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of the trunk, showing the bed extended to operative position.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the numeral 5 indicates the bottom or body of the trunk which may be constructed in any preferred form and is provided with the lid or top 6 consisting essentially of side boards or rails 7, a hinged end 8, a rigid end 9 and a pivoted and slidable lid 10. Suitable securing members 11 are pivotally attached to the center of the lid and are pivotally or slidably attached at their opposite ends to the side rails 7.
The bed frame is formed in two substantially U-shaped parts 12 and 13, the part 12 being rigidly secured in the trunk top 6 and pivotally connected with the free ends of the part 13 by links 14. The foldable part 13 is provided with a pivoted stand 15 for supporting that end of the part, and a suitable.
spring 17 is secured within the frame of the bed against one end of the trunk, and constitutes a head board, while the upstanding boards As shown in Fig. "2 the foldable part 13 of Specification of Letters Patent. i Pat ented' D ec, 8, 1914, Application riled-March 12, 1914. se ria1i-i .s24,1es; 3
7 provide side rails therefor. A suitable mattress l6, shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1 isprovided and is adapted to be folded bewhen' the trunk top is closed.
What I claim is 1. The combination With a trunk and a top therefor of a hinged end wall for said top, a slidable cover for said top, a two part bed frame adapted to be supported in a folded position in said top, links connecting the adjoining ends of said bed frame, and foldable means carried by one of said bed frame parts to support the latter in-extended position.
2. The combination with a trunk and a top therefor of a hingedend wall for said top, a slidable cover for said top, a two part bed frame adapted to be supported in folded position in said top, links connecting the adjoining ends of said bed frame parts, the frame end of one of said parts being secured in said top and foldable means carried by the opposite end of the other part to support the latter in extended position.
3. The combination with a trunk and a top therefor, a hinged end wall for said top, a slidable cover for said top, means pivoted to said top and to said cover for positioning the latter at right-angles to its normal position exteriorly of the opposite end wall, and a bed adapted to be supported in a folded position in said top.
4. The combination with a trunk and a top therefor of a hinged end wall for said top, a slidable cover for said top, means pivoted to said top and to said cover for positioning the latter at right-angles to its normal position'exteriorly of the opposite end wall, a two part bed frame adapted to be supported in a folded position in said top and links connecting the adjoining ends of said bed frame.
5. The combination with a trunkand a top therefor of a hinged end wall for said top, a slidable cover for said top, means pivoted to said top and to said cover for positioning the latter at right-angles to its normal position eXteriorly of the opposite end Wall, a two part bed frame adapted to be supported in a folded position in said top, links connecting the adjoining ends of said bed frame, and foldable means carried by one of said bed frame parts to support the latter in extended position.
6. The combination with a trunk and a top therefor of a hinged end wall for s-aid top, a slidable cover for said top, means piv I oted to said top and to said cover forrposi-;
tioning the latter at right-angles to; its *normal position exteriorly of theop'posite' end wall, a two part bed frame adapted to be supported in folded position in saidtop;
links connecting the adjoining ends of said bed frame parts, the frame "end of one of 1 said parts being secured in said top and foldable ineans carried by the opposite end' i 0]": the other part to support the latter in eX- -tended position.
In testimony whereof I have signed iny name to this specification in the presence of 1 Copies of this patent may ohtiined for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
. Washtngtomfifi.
