To all whom it may concern Be it known that T, ABRAHAM S. STARK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved .Vatchcase, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to watch cases and has for an object the provision of an improved construction and arrangement of parts whereby a watch may be used in an upright position so that the correct time may be observed.

Another object in view is to provide a case having a front formed with an opening and a socket arrangement in the back of the case so that a watch arranged in the socket may have the face uncovered, this construction being associated with a member either pass ing through the ring of the watch or over the stem of the watch so as to hold the watch against rotation in the socket.

A still further object in view is to pro vide a casing which is formed with a bellshaped face having an opening through which the face of the watch may be seen, together with a socket and easel arranged at the back of the face, the easel or bracing member being foldable.

In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a front view of a case embodying the invention, a watch being shown arranged therein. Fig. 2 is a section through Fig. 1 on line 22. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the construction shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 1 is a fragmentary sectional view showing the upper part of the structure shown in Fig. 2 but disclosing a slightly modified form of retaining strap. Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 3 but showing the modified arrangement disclosed in Fig. 4. Fig. 6 is a top plan view of a further modified form of the invention showing the retaining strap connected with the front.

Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates the front plate which may be made from leather or stiffen ing material covered with leather, or, in fact, any desired material, and is preferably made in the shape of a bell, as shown more particularly in Fig. 1, while a body 2 is provided having an opening 3 therein, and a pair of supporting legs 1 and 5 are provided. This gives a substantially strong construction and one having an ornamental appearance. Connected with the rear of the front plate or member 1 is a socket 6 which may be made from any suitable material and which is preferably provided with a bottom '2, a back member 8 and side members 9 which extend preferably for only part of the distance up the back member 3. as shown in F ig. 2. This provides a receptacle or socket for a watch. as for instance, the watch 10. I

lVhen the watch 10 is in position in the socket the face thereof will be seen through the front 1, as shown in Fig. 1. In order to hold the face properly in position so that ring 12 will be uppermost a retaining strap 11 is connected to the back member 8 and is arranged to pass through the ring 12 of watch 10 and then be held in place by the snap fastener 13. It will be evident that other fastening means may be used for holdmg the strap in a locked or folded position. This strap, namely strap 11, not only holds the watch against accidental turning in the socket but prevents the spilling of the watch in case the device is accidentally knocked over.

In order to hold the device in proper pos1t1on to represent a complete watch or watch stand, an easel 14 is provided which is formed with a member 15 cemented or otherwise secured to the back 8, a bracing member 16 and a connecting member 17. The connect-ing member 17 may be bent approximately at point 18 so that the parts will fold, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, when the device is being packed.

In Figs. l and 5 will be seen a slightly modified form of the invention in which a strap 19 is stitched or secured in any suitable manner to the front 1 and which is provided with an opening 20 adapted to fit over the stem of watch 10 whereby the watch is held in position after the strap has been sccured in place by the locking member 13. It is evident that if desired the strap 19 could be passed through the ring 12 in addition to being passedover the stem.

Referring more particularly to Fig. 6, it will be seen that in this form of the invention the strap 21 is connected at 22 by any suitable means, as for instance, adhesive or stitching, to the front 1 so that the strap may be looped around the stem of watch 10 and connected at a different point to the front 1 by any suitable means, as for instance, the snap fastener 23. It will be observed that both ends of the strap 21 are connected to the front 1, while in the form shown in Fig. at one end is connected to the front 1 and the opposite end to the back 8.

What I claim is:

1. In a watch case of the character described, a front member having an opening therein, a socket member arranged in back of said front member so as to hold a watch in such position that the face may be seen through said opening, and a strap adapted to engage the watch and said back merr her for holding the watch against accidental movement.

In a watch case of the character described, a front having an opening therein, a socket member arranged at the back of said front member for supporting a watch so that the'face may be seen through said opening, a strap secured to said back and adapted toeXtend through the ring of said watch, and means for securing the free end of said strap to said socket member whereby the watch is locked in position.

3. In a watch case of the character described a front member havin an o enin 7 b b therein, a socket arranged at the rear of said front member for supporting a watch in such position that the face may be seen through said opening, and means connected with said socket member and adapted to engage the ring of the watch for preventing 7 opening for holding a watch in position opposite the opening, means for holding the watch against rotation when in the socket, and an easel structure connected with the socket member for supporting the socket member and the front member, said easel structure comprising a bracing member and a foldable connecting link structure for holding the bracing member in position when the device is in use.

5. In a watch case of the character described, a front formed with an opening, a socket member arranged in back of said opening for holding a watch opposite said opening, a strap connected with said front provided with an aperture therein whereby the strap may be folded over the stem of the watch, said stem extending through said aperture, and means for locking the strap to the socket member.
