FRANK W. COLLINS, 0F CORTLAND, YORK.
VEHICLEROVIBE.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANK W. COLLINS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cortland, in the county of Cortland and State of New York, have invented acertain new and useful Vehicle-Robe, of which the following is a specification. I
This invention has for its object the production of a vehicle rObe which can be readily adjusted and removed and which is particularly simple in construction, and highly efficient and comfortable in use; and the invention consists in the combinations and constructions hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In describing this invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawings in which like characters designate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figures 1 and 2 are, respectively, front and rear elevations of a robe constructed in accordance with my invention, the head piece being; shown as projecting upwardly in Fig. 1 and as folded down in Fig. 2. Fig. 3 is. a sectional view on line AA Fig. 1. Figs. 4 and 5 are respectively, a front elevation and a plan view of the head piece showing its position when the head piece is buttoned around the head of the user. Figs. 6, 7 and 8 are respectively plan views of the detached front body piece and the right and left side flaps. Fig. 9 is a plan view of the blank of the head piece. Fig. 10 is a plan view of the blank of the mud. Figs. 11 and 12 are plan views of the parts of the boot.
This vehicle robe comprises, generally, a front body piece which extends from the feet to the neck of the user, a boot at the lower end of the body piece normally projecting forwardly therefrom and having its entrance opening facing rearwardly, and side flaps foldable rearwardly around the vusers body, these side flaps extending the full length of thebody piece and being normally arranged to stand at an angle to the body piece, and foldable into position to close the entrance opening of the boot. Preferably these side flaps are provided with arm holes at their upper ends.
1 designates the body piece, and 2 the boot.
3 are the side flaps.
The body piece is formed with a cutout 4, extending upwardly from its lower edge and the boot 2 includes triangular side walls 5 secured at one end to the body, and a wall connected to the upper and lower edges of Specification of Letterslatent.
Patented Jan. 2, 1917.
Application filed. January 8, 1916. Serial No. 71,055.
the side walls 5 forming the top wall 6. and bottom wall 7 of the boot. The opening '4 constitutes the entrance opening for the boot and the lower portion of this entrance opening is closed by a wall 8 which has extensions 9 at its ends secured to the rear face of the body 1. Preferably the top wall 6, the bottom 7 and the wall 8, areformed from a blank 10, and owing to the arrangement of the side walls 5, top wall 6, and bott0m7, the boot is caused to project forwardly from the body 1 so that the feet of the user can bereadily inserted therein.
The body piece 1 is formed with its side edges angular, that is, the side edges converge downwardly at 11 from points 12 near and slightly above the waistline of the body piece. 1, the side edges also converging upwardly at 13 from the points 12 toward the top or collar portion of the body piece 1.,
The side flaps 3 are formed with the straight edges 14 contiguous to the body 1, and these straight edges 14 are secured to the inclined edges 11 and 13 of the body piece so that the flaps are caused to normally stand at an angle to the body piece 1, and hence to have the tendency to remain in such a position that the user can readily work the side piecesaround him and so that they will remain easily in place after his feet have been inserted in the boot 2. These side flaps 3 preferably extend the full length of the body 1 and are provided with arm holes 15 near their upper ends. As the lower ends of the side flaps exten to the lower edge of the body piece 1, the lower ends of the side flaps close the entrance opening 4 of the boot and lap the wall 8 which closes the lower portion of this opening 4, so that the feet of the user are snugly inclosed. The body piece is also provided with a suitable muff which consists of a piece 16 secured to the inner or outer face of the body piece 1, and is also provided with slits by means of which the usershands can be thrust into the muff from the outside of the body when the piece 16 is secured to the inner surface of body piece 1.
' 17 designates the head piece which is cut from the blank illustrated in Fig. 9, this a the sam p ane as the collar 18 when the r head pieceis flat. By this construction, the head piece can be cut from a single piece of material. The head piece may be permanently or detachably secured to the body and may be foldable out of and into the position shown in Fig. 2 or may be detachable.
This vehicle robe is particularly advantageous in that it is comparatively simple in construction, and is especially advantageous in that it can be readily adjusted and removed by the user himself without outside aid.
lVhat I claim is:
1. A vehicle robe comprising a front body piece having its side edges thereof converging from near the waistline to the collar line thereof, and side flaps extending substantially the full length of the body piece and having straight edges contiguous to the body piece, the straight edges being secured to the angular edges of the body piece whereby the side flaps normally stand at an angle to the body piece, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. A vehicle robe comprising a front body piece having its side edges converging downwardly from points near the waistline toward the lower end thereof and converging upwardly from said points near the waist line to the collar line, side flaps oblong in general outline and having straight edges which are secured to the angular side edges of the body piece whereby the side flaps normally stand at an angle to the body piece and in position to be readily wrapped around the users body, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. A vehicle robe comprising a front body piece having side edges thereof converging from near the waistline to the collar line thereof, and side flaps foldable rearwardly and under the wearer, the side flaps extending substantially the full length of the body piece and having straight edges contiguous to the body piece, the straight edges being secured to the angular edges of the body piece whereby the side flaps normally stand at an angle to the body piece, the side flaps having arm holes neartheir upper ends, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
A. A vehicle robe comprising a body piece, side flaps on opposite sides of the body, and a forwardly extending boot at the lower end of the body piece and arranged to stand at an angle to the body piece and having an entrance opening on the rear side thereof,
the boot also having a wall closing the lower portion of its entrance opening leaving the upper portion thereof open, the side flaps being foldable in position to close said entrance opening, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
5. A vehicle robe comprising a body piece and a forwardly projecting boot at the lower end, the boot including side walls standing at an angle to the body piece, a top wall inclining downwardly and forwardly from the front of the body piece and a bottom wall, the side walls of the boot holding the same in an angular relation to the body so that the -wearers feet can be readily inserted therein, and a wall inclosing the lower portion of the entrance opening of the boot, and side flaps secured to the edges of the body piece and foldable rearwardly around the wearer and over the entrance opening of the boot and lapping the wall across the lower portion of the entrance opening, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
6. A vehicle robe comprising a body piece, a forwardly projecting boot at the lower end of the body piece including side walls standing at an angle to the body, a top wall inclining downwardly and forwardly from the front of the body and a bottom wall, the side walls of boot holding the same in an angular relation to the body piece so that the wearers feet can be readily inserted therein, a wall closing the lower portion of the entrance opening of the boot, and side flaps secured to the edges of the body piece and foldable rearwardly around the wearer and over the entrance opening of the boot the side flaps lapping the wall across the lower portion of the entrance opening, said side flaps extending the full length of the body piece and having arm holes at their upper ends, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
7 A vehicle robe comprising a body piece, and a head piece comprising a neck band and side pieces rising from the neck band and arranged in the same plane as the neck band and to come on the sides of the wearers head when the side pieces are buttoned back of the users head, substantially as and for the purpose described.
of Cortland, and State of New York, this 18th day of December, 1915.
