Abstract

A lap robe of generally rectangular shape is provided with pockets, one on its outer side and one on its inner side and adjacent the opposite ends thereof, the pocket on the outer side being adapted to receive the hands of the person wearing the robe and the pocket on the inner side being adapted to receive the feet of the person wearing the robe.

in which a cylindrical attachment is shown to partially cover the wearer, U.S. Pat. No. 2,146,400 in which a robe is formed as a large pocket, U.S. Pat. No. 2,264,471 in which a beach blanket is provided with small pockets along one end thereof and U.S. Pat. No. 2,791,775 in which a robe has an attached bag into which the robe can be positioned and carried.

This invention differs from the prior art in providing a first pocket on the outer side of the robe adjacent one end thereof and a second and larger pocket on the inner side of the robe adjacent the other end thereof with the openings in the pockets facing in the same direction.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT In its simplest form the lap robe of this invention comprises a generally rectangular section of blanket material 10 having an outer side 11 and an inner side 12 and hemmed at its periphery 13. One end of the lap robe 10 is wider than the other and forms a bottom end 14 with the opposite narrower end forming the normal top end 15 of the robe.

A first pocket 16 is located on the outer side 11 of the robe 10 adjacent the top end 15 and opens toward the same. The first pocket 16 is formed of a section of material having inturned sides 17 and a bottom 18 sewed to the robe 10. The first pocket may be used for conveniently holding various articles such as cigarettes, keys, tickets and the like and also forms a convenient pocket for warming the hands as it is located on the outside of the robe 10 and in the area of the wearers lap.

By referring now to FIGS. 1, 2 and 3 of the drawings it will be seen that the robe 10 is provided on its inner ket material to which said other pocket is affixed, said side 12 with a second pocket 19 which is relatively larger than the first pocket 16 and has its sides 20 and bottom 21 inturned and sewed to the robe 10. The second pocket 19 is formed ofa piece of material, preferably the same as that from which the robe 10 is formed, that is sufficiently larger than the area of the robe 10 to which it is attached so that it will form folds and pleats 22 and provide a substantially large pocket capable of holding the feet and lower legs of the person using the robe. The upper edge of the second .pocket 19 is hemmed as at 23 and incorporates resilient material in the hem such as an elastic band or the like so that the upper edge of the second pocket 19 as defined by the hem 23 will tend to be self-closing around the feet and legs of the person using the robe. The open upper end of the second pocket 19 is positioned upwardly relative to the bottom 14 of the robe 10 like that of the first pocket 16 and it will occur to those skilled in the art that when the lap robe is used by positioning it over the lap and legs of a person the first pocket 16 on the outer side 11 of the robe forms a conveninet hand pocket or receptacle in a convenient location on the outer side of the robe while the second pocket 19 on the inner and opposite side of the robe forms a convenient and practical enclosure for the feet and lower legs of the person using the same with the second pocket 19 being hidden by the robe 10.

It will thus be seen that a lap robe with a hand and convenience pocket on the outside thereof and a foot warming pocket on the inside thereof has been disclosed.

Although but one embodiment of the present invention has been illustrated and described, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various changes and modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit of the invention and having thus described my invention what I claim is:

1. The combination of a lap robe and a pair of pockets thereon, said lap robe comprising a rectangular, single thickness, panel of blanket material having an outer side and an inner side, one end of said panel of blanket material forming a top end and the opposite end thereof forming a bottom end, one of said pockets being affixed to the outer side of said panel of blanket material adjacent said top end and opening toward the same and the other of said pockets being affixed to an area on the inner side of said panel of blanket material adjacent the bottom end thereof and opening toward said top end, said other pocket comprising a secondary panel of blanket material substantially larger than the area of the inner side of said rectangular panel of blansecondary panel of blanket material being pleated and having means for resiliently urging said other pocket toward said inner side of said panel of blanket material.

The combination set forth in claim 1 and wherein said pocket affixed to the outer side of said panel of blanket material is spaced inwardly from said top end thereof a distance substantially equal to the depth of said pocket, whereby said pocket is positioned on the lap portion of said lap robe.

Claims (2)

1. The combination of a lap robe and a pair of pockets thereon, said lap robe comprising a rectangular, single thickness, panel of blanket material having an outer side and an inner side, one end of said panel of blanket material forming a top end and the opposite end thereof forming a bottom end, one of said pockets being affixed to the outer side of said panel of blanket material adjacent said top end and opening toward the same and the other of said pockets being affixed to an area on the inner side of said panel of blanket material adjacent the bottom end thereof and opening toward said top end, said other pocket comprising a secondary panel of blanket material substantially larger than the area of the inner side of said rectangular panel of blanket material to which said other pocket is affixed, said secondary panel of blanket material being pleated and having means for resiliently urging said other pocket toward said inner side of said panel of blanket material.

2. The combination set forth in claim 1 and wherein said pocket affixed to the outer side of said panel of blanket material is spaced inwardly from said top end thereof a distance substantially equal to the depth of said pocket, whereby said pocket is positioned on the lap portion of said lap robe.
