UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES J. VAN KERSEN, OF KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN.
BARREL-STAN D.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 458,925, dated September 1, 1891.
Application filed April 25, 1891. Serial No. 390,404. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J AMES J. VAN KERSEN, of Kalamazoo, in the county of Kalamazoo and State of Michigan, have invented a new and Improved Barrel Attachment, of which the following is a specification, reference be ing had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which- Figure 1 is avertical transverse section showing the application of my improved attachment to a barrel. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the attachment, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the removable cover.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
The object of my invention is to furnish a simple and effective attachment for barrels containing crackers or similar goods for supporting the barrel in an inverted position and receiving the crackers in such a way as to be conveniently handled by the salesmen.
My invention consists in a flaring-box provided with a floor or bottom inclined from two directions downwardly to the middle and furnished with lids on opposite sides and a removable cover for causing the crackers to be discharged toward one side or the other of the box, all as will be hereinafter more fully described.
The box A, forming the body of the barrel attachment, is provided with sloping sides and with a top a, having a circular opening (I for receiving the end of the barrel. Opposite sides of the box are provided with lids B B, and the bottom of the box is inclined downwardly toward the center. At the center of the bottom is secured a low partition G and on a plane nearly on a level with contents of the barrel is discharged into the box and may be removed after opening one or the other of the lids B B, and the crackers so removed are replaced from the barrel by gravity. hen it is desired to have the crackers discharged upon one side only, the opening between the partition G and the cross-bar D is closed by a cover F, which rests upon the upper edge of the partition and the inner edge of the cross-bar, and is held in place bya button c, pivoted to the under surface of the cover.
Having thus described my invention, I
- claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. An attachment for barrels, consisting of a box having sloping sides and a hinged lid on one or both sides, the said box being furnished with a circular opening (Z in the top thereof for receiving the end of the barrel and cross-bars D D on the inside below the opening for supporting the barrel, substantially as specified.
2. An attachment for barrels, consisting of a box having sloping sides and a hinged lid on one or both sides, the said box being furnished with a circular opening (Z in the top thereof for receiving the end of the barrel,
cross-bars D D on the inside below the opening for supporting the barrel, and the removable cover F, substantially as specified.
3. An attachment for barrels, consisting of a box having lids on opposite sides and provided with an opening in its top to receive the end of a barrel,'c-ross-bars below the opening for supporting the barrel, a partition projecting from the bottom of the box, and a cover adapted to rest upon the partition and against either of the said cross-bars, substantially as and for the. purpose set forth.
