Description
G. A. MINOR.
SUPPORTING AND TIPPING STAND.
APPLICATION FILED 11111.5, 1911.

IINITED STATES PATENT @FFICE.
GEORGE ALLEN MINOR, OF PRAIRIE HILL, MISSOURI.
SUPPORTING AND TIPPING STAND.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE ALLEN MINoR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Prairie Hill, in the county of Chariton and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supporting and Tipping Stands, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings.
This invention is an improved tipping stand for supporting a barrel, oil can, or other like receptacle, and tilting, tipping or inclining the same as may be required in order to discharge its contents or permit material to be drawn therefrom, the object of the invention being to provide an exceedingly strong, cheap, simple and serviceable device of this character which serves as a convenient support for a barrel or can, and enables the same to be readily tilted or inclined as may be desired.
The invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices, hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a tipping stand constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same and showing the same in use.
In the embodiment of my invention, I provide a base 1. The said base is composed of a pair of sills 2, 3 which are connected together by a pair of cross bars 4: which are secured on the upper sides thereof and at the ends of said sills. Each one of the said cross bars is provided on its inner side with an upwardly extending standard 5, the lower portions of the said standards being secured to the said cross bars as shown.
In connection with the base, I also provide a tilting box or body 6, which comprises essentially a bottom or platform 7 a pair of side walls 8, and an end wall 9. The said box or body is disposed between the standards 5 of the base, and is pivotally connected to the said standards as by means of pivot bolts 10 which extend through the side walls 6 at points near the upper edges of said side walls, and also extend through the said standards, at points near the upper ends thereof. On the outer side of one of the side walls 6, and at one end thereof, is secured the lower portion of an upwardly extending lever 11 which may be-grasped Specification of Letters Patent.

and operated to tilt or incline the box or body and cause the same to correspondingly tilt or incline a barrel, can or other receptacle a, placed in the said box or body and bearing on the bottom thereof. The box or body is also here shown as provided with an end board 12 which is disposed opposite the end 9, and may be removed at will to facilitate the placing of a barrel or can on the bot-tom of the box or body or the removal of the same therefrom. In practice any suitable means may be employed to secure the said removable end board in place. For the purposes of this specification, the end board is shown as provided on its inner side with hooks 13 and the side walls 6 of the box or body are shown as provided on their inner sides near one end, with keepers 14 for engagement by said hook. I would have it understood that I do not limit myself to the use of these hooks and keepers for detachably securing the end boards in place, as any other suitable means may be employed to efi'ect this purpose within the scope of my invention.
It will be understood that the removable end board when in place on the box or body serves to hold the barrel or can in place in said box or body.
It will be observed that the lower portion of the lever 11 is near one of the standards 5 and hence when the box or body is tilted in one direction the said lever comes in contact with the said standard and serves to limit such tilting movement. This prevents the box or body from casually rocking after the device has been used and the lever released.
My improved stand or support may be constructed of wood or any other suitable material, and I would have it understood that minor changes in the form, and proportion ofthe various parts may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention, and within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim The herein described tipping support for barrels, cans and the like and comprising a base having a pair of upwardly extending standards, a box or body comprising a bottom, a pair of side walls and a fixed end wall, pivots projecting from the side walls at points near their upper edges and engaging the standards, and a lever attached In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my to the box or body on one side thereof and signature in the presence of tWo Witnesses.
near one of the standards said lever enabling the box or body to be tilted or in- GEORGE ALLEN MINOR clined and acting as a stop to engage the WVitnesses: standard and prevent the casual rocking E. H. EAGAN, of the box or body. E. R. EAGAN.
