Application led'SeptemberZ, 1916i.` -Sera1.1\To121,961..
at Duluth, in the county of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rocking Bius, of which the following is a specification. Y
This invention relates to a rocking bin and has for its object the provision of a receptacle of relatively large capacity so constructed and supported as to be balanced and therefore easily operable regardless of the quantity and weight of the material contained therein.
A further object of my invention is the provision of a rocking bin particularly adapted for use in connection with counters, shelving and the like and which provides for ready access to the material contained within the bin.
Further objects and advantages of my in veiition will be apparent as it is better understood by reference to the following speciiication when read in connection with the accompanying drawing, illustrating the preferred embodiment thereof, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical section through a counter and bin with the latter in closed position, and
Fig. 2 is a similar View illustrating the open position of the bin.
Referring to the drawing, a counter is illustrated as comprising a top 1, front 2 and bottom 3. End or division walls 4 di vide the space within the counter into compartments to receive one or more bins which are inserted and operate through openings in the rear Vof the counter, the rear walls of the bins being adapted to close the openings when the bins are in closed position. rlhe detailsy of construction of the counter may be varied widely, my present invention residing more particularly in a bin of peculiar construction and marked advantages over devices of a similar character now in com- H1011 USG.
The bin comprises a rear wall 5, side walls `6, and front wall 7 and bottom 8. 'lhe` statednormally closes the `opening to the compartment in which the bin is disposed.
speciaaaon ofii-aersfvrateaepamnfmaalmannoia, y
Thenpper edges4 of the side wallsv are Vstraight `adjacent the rear wall 5 and curve downwardly at 9 as they approach the front wall 7 to allow the bin to rock. rl`he front lower corners of the side walls 6 are curved at 10 so that the front wall 7 and bottom 8 merge into each other, thus eliminating an angular corner. The bottoni 8 bends upwardly at 11 to allow the bin to rock and provide for supporting the bin when in open position.
A roller l2 is mounted in suitable brackets 13 secured to the bottom 8 adjacent the bend 11 therein. rl`he roller`12 rests on a groovcd metal plate 14 which is set into or fastened to the bottom 3 of the counter. This ar rangement provides for apractically frictionless pivot for the bin while permitting the bin to be bodily removed from and replaced in the counter at will. Ahandle l5 is secured to the rear wall 5 of the bin.
The mode of operation of my improved binwill be apparent from the following brief description thereof. The bin may be cleaned if necessary after removing it bodily from the counter. The removalY is accomplished as readily as the removal of an orn dinary drawer, no tools being required. The bin is replaced with the roller 12 in engagement with the groove in the plate la and is filled with the desired quantity of material. To close or open the bin the operator grasps the handle l5 and rocks the bin toward or from the counter. When inopen or closed position the center of gravity is on the corresponding side of the plane nor mal to the bottom 3 of the counter at the plate 14 and consequently the bin remains indefinitely in open or closed position when so disposed. The arrangement is such, however, that a minimum of force is required to move the bin to either'position.
Obviously various changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention or sacrificing any of the material advantages there-` of, the form'hereinbefore described being merelyrthe preferred embodiment thereof.
I claim: 'f
A storage receptacle comprising a casing forming a compartment having an opening at one end and a bottom elevated'above the surface upon which said receptacle rests7 to the bottom of said casing :Lnd lnwing :i
Y and a bin having a flat end forming a vergroove therein to receive said roller, said lint tical closure for said opening when said bin end extendingbelow tlie upwardly directed is in closed position, a bottom disposed in portion of the bottom of said bin whereby 15 5 a plane substantially normal to said flat end the space between said upwardly directed adjacent the opposite end of said bin and portion and the bottom of said casing is upwardly directed adjacent said flat end to covered when said bin is in closed position.
