WINFIELD S. CRUM, OF LA FAYETTE, INDIANA.
DELIVERY-BASKET.
. Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jime 7, 1910.
Application filed March 6, 1908. Serial No. 419,565.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, \VINFIELD S. CRUM,
a citizen of the United States, residing in La Fayette, in the county of Tippecanoe and State of Indiana, have invented a certain new and useful Delivery-Basket, of which the following is a specification. This invention relates to delivery baskets for groceries and other articles and consists in the construction, and combination of parts hereinafter more particularly set forth and claimed.
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings represents a perspective view of a basket embodying my. invention, Fig. 2 represents a cross-section lengthwise through the middle of said basket; and Fig. 3 represents a plan view of the partition slide.
The said basket is a rectangular quadrilateral in plan and greater in length than in breadth. Its sheet metal sides A and ends B incline inwardly and downwardly for at least part of the distance to the bottom of the-basket and-are rovided with holes F near the bottom for t e circulation of air to cool and ventilate the interior. The upper edge of said box is turned over to form a rim and the ends B are provided with convenient handles D consisting preferably of sheet metal pieces or plates bent over said rim and roughened to afford a better hold.
A rectangular wooden block G fits in the bottom of the basket from above reinforcing the sidesand ends thereof.
C designates a movable partition fitting across the said box and having an outline corresponding in size and form to the crosssection of the interior thereof, in order that said partition may divide the interior of the basket into two compartments, adapting it to carry two commodities withoutmixing', or similarly keep separate purchases of two different customers. As the relative quanso as to have a part between sai tity of such commodities or of the purchases of two customers will not be constant it becomes important to make the relative capacity of the portions of the interior of the basket appropriated to them correspondingly variable that no space may be wasted. The said partition C 1s therefore free to be shifted along the interior of the basket from one location to another and has an opening E cut out of it near the u per edge opening and said edge that serves as a convenient handle. The upper edge of'said partition is also provided with two outwardly projecting downwardly v curved flanges or guide-hooks H fitting over the rim of the basket at the sides thereof to guide such partition in its shifting from point to point and to hold it always in proper transverse position. Said partltion maybe lifted out of said basket and altogether separated therefrom at will without impediment.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In combination with a basket having a rounded rim, a transverse partition fitting freely within the same and provided at'its upper corners with two outwardly promoting downwardly curved flanges w 1ch fit over said rim at opposite sides of said basket and guide said artition as it Is shifted from point to pomt within said basket for varying the relative size of the compartments of the latter substantially as set forth.
In witness whereof, .I have signed my name to these specifications in the presence of two subscribing witnesses- .WINFIELD S. CRUM. Witnesses:
RALPH G. U'rrnn,
WILLIAM T. SLINKER.
