Description

11. H. SELLERS.' ADJUSTABLE FILING CASE APPLIOATION FILED JULY 28, 19.10.
@Momma n, c. THE nanars persas cu., wAsHlyanm y Nrrnn stares HERBERT H. SELLERS, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA.
ADJUSTABLE FILING-CASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed .Tuly 28, 1910. Serial No. 574,379.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT H. SELLERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda andV State of California, have invented certain new and useful lmproven'ients in Adjustable Filing-Cases, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to filing cases and the principal object of the saine is to provide a cheap yet durable structure which can be formed of card board or other suitable Y material, and in which a stop is provided and carried by novel guide strips so that` said stop can be readily adjusted.
ln carrying out the objects of'the invention generally stated above it will be understood, of course, that the essential features thereof are necessarily susceptible of changes iu details and structural arrangements, one preferred and practical embodiment of which is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is an end elevation of the iniproved filing case. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view taken on the line A-A, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical sectional. view taken on the line B B, Fig. 2. Fig. lis a top plan view, the cover being removed. Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail sectional view of the bottom guide strip of the case.
Referring to the accompanying drawings by numerals, it will be seen that the iinproved case comprises a body the bottom 1 and sides 2 of which are integral, said body being preferably formed of cardboard that is bent to the desired shape. The forward end of the botttom 1 is upturned to provide a flange 3 and the forward edges of the sides 2 are inturned to provide flanges l, and said flanges have the front closure strip 5 glued or otherwise rigidly fastened thereto. The rear of bottom 1 is also provided with an upturned fiange 6 and the lower portions of the rear edges of sides 2 are provided with iuturned flanges 7. Said flanges 6 and 7 have a lower guard strip S glued or otherwise rigidly fastened thereto. The upper portions of the rear edges of sides 2 are also provided with inturned fianges 9, and said flanges have the upper guard strip 10 glued or otherwise rigidly fastened thereto. This slructuii'e provides a. body having an open end and top.
A guide strip 11 is held in parallel relation to the longitudinal center of the .bottom 1 of' the body by` the spacer blocks 12.
Said strip is preferably of wood and has itsY longitudinal edges provided with flat metallic wear strips 13. The sides 2 of thc body lare provided with horizontally arranged oppositely disposed guide strips 14 which are held in spaced relation to said sides by the blocks 15.
An abutment or stop 16 has its bottom edge providedwith a forwardly projecting flange 17 and its side edges are provided with similar flanges 18, and said flanges 17 and 1S are connected by the corner fasteners 19. Said' stop has a base opening 20 through which the bottom guide strip 11 eX- tends and side openings 21 through which theside guide strips 14 extend. Said strips are passed through said openings and glued or'l otherwise rigidly attached to their spacer blocks so that the flanges of the stop will be beneath said strips. A handgrip 22 is suitably attached to the rear surface of said stop 16 so that said stop can be readily adj usted on the guide strips.
A cover 28 is provided for the body, said cover being preferably of cardboard and having its side and end edges bent to provide the pendent Hanges 211 and 25 which engages over the edge of the body. The meeting ends of said flanges are fastened together by the corner fasteners 26.
A suitable grip 27 is carried by the outer surface of the front closure 5 of the body by means of which the case can be readily handled.
It will be seen from the foregoing that the improved filing case being formed of card-` board, the same can be economically manufactured, and is also light in weight.
In use, the pressure of the papers or other material held in the body by the stop 16 will cause said stop to incline so that it will bind upon the side guide strips. To adjust said stop, the hand can be inserted through the open rear end of the box and the stop rocked to a vertical position and then readily adjusted.
lVhat I claim as my invention is z- 1. A filing case comprising a body formed of integral sides and bottom, a front closure for said body, a cover for said body, guide strips carried by the sides and bottom, and a stop slidably engaging said strips.
2. A filing case comprising a body having an open rear end and top, a closure for the Patented Mar. 14, 1911.
ksaid body, and a stop slidably engaging .said strips.
tened to said flanges, a flange at the rear i 3.l A filing case comprising a body, a cover -therefor, spacer blocks carried by the bottoni of said body,a guide strip held in spaced relation tothe longitudinal center of said bottom by said bloeks, spacer blocks carried by the sides of said body, horizontal guide strips held in spaced relation to the sides of said Abody by said blocks, and a stop slidably engaging said strips. y
4. A filing case comprising a body formed of integral sides and bottom, the forward edgesof said sides and bottom provided Withflanges, a front elosu're rigidly fasv i i' v 987,018
edges of said bot-tom, flanges at the lower portions of therear edges of said sides, a guard strip rigidly fastened to the said rear flanges, flanges at t-he upper portion of the rear edges of the sides, a guard strip rigidly fastened thereto, a cover for said body, and a stop slidable in said body.
5. A filing oase comprising a body, guide strips held in spaced relation to the sides and bottom thereof, and a stop provided with side and bottoni openings through which said strips extend and also with side and bottoni flanges which lie beneath said strips.
In testimony whereof I affix my ysignature in presence of two witnesses.
