MARY ANN DONOHUE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
RECEPTACLE FOR ASHES AND GARBAGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 760,434, dated May 24, 1904.
Application filed October 15, 1902.
T0 (1J/Z whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY ANN Donor-IUE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Receptacles for Ashes and Garbage, of which the followingisaspeciiication.
My invention relates to receptacles for garbage, ashes, &c., of that class which are divided by a central partition into two independent compartments, one adapted to contain ashes and the other garbage.
A further object of the invention is toprovide a bucket or like receptacle with a central removable partition supported in guideways on opposite sides of the bucket and having' a lidor cover section having a hinged connection with the upper portion of the partition.
The construction of the improvement will be fully described hereinafter in connection with the accompanying' drawings, which form part of this specification, and its novel features will be particularly set forth in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the bucket with the bail broken away and illustrating another form of said hinge connection. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the bucket having applied thereto the form of hinge connection shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken through the bucket ou line 4 4, Fig. 2.
Corresponding parts in all the figures are denoted by the same reference characters.
The numeral 1 designates the body of a bucket, pail, or other receptacle having formed at two opposite sides of its interior guideways 11, here shown as plates riveted to the body 1 with a space between them. These are preferable of angle-iron, as indicated, but may be formed in any other suitable way and be soldered to the body, ifdesired. These guideways receive a removable partition 12, which extends from top to bottom of the body when in place and forms two independent compartments 3 and 4 within the receptacle. Projecting from opposite sides of the top edge of the body 1 in alinement with the partition (by preference) are two bail-ears 5, perforated and receiving the hooked ends of a bail 6, and may Serial No.`127,3l8. (No model.)
also again be perforated to receive the ends of a rod 8, extending across the top of the bucket, or, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, this rod may simply pass through a pair of lugs formed upon the upper edge of the partition 12 and through the bail-eyes. Two narrow plates 14, extending across the bucket, are spaced apart to permit the insertion of the partition 12 between them or its withdrawal therefrom, and upon the outer edges of these plates are formed lugs or eyes alternating with lugs or eyes formed on the cover- sections 9 and 10, and the usual hinge-pintles pass through them to hinge the covers to said plates.
The utility of the invention will be readily understood and appreciated. rlhe receptacle provides separate compartments for ashes and garbage, and thus affords in a single convenient receptacle the advantages of two independent receptacles.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A bucket provided on its interior and at diametrically opposite points with verticallydisposed guideways, two plates secured to the bucket and extending across lthe top of the same in alinement with said guideways, a partition removably seated between said guideways, and two coversIhinged to said plates on opposite sides of said partition.
2. A bucket provided on its interior and at diametrically opposite points with verticallydisposed spaced apart 'plates constituting guideways, two spaced-apart plates secured t0 the bucket and extending across the top of the same in alinement with said guideways and provided with lugs or eyes, covers provided with lugs or eyes alternating with the lugs or eyes of the plates and hinged thereto by pintles, and a partition designed to be inserted between said plates into said guideways whereby to produce two compartments in the bucket, said partition being removable, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name in the presence of the subscribing witnesses.
Jol-1N J. HAYDEN, J. O. Frans.
